I don't use the hairpin clips anymore on the adjustment pins on my B3030. The pins are quite a bit longer than they really need to be so I figured I would have to hit one heck of a bump to bounce them out of the holes. So far, so good. Lot's easier to adjust the links if you don't have to mess with the clips. Not necessary IMHO.
I have the same type of pin from a L3130. I have never used the hair pins and the pins have never come out.

I recently replaced the small cotter pins for larger (and looser) pins. They are much easier to remove and place back into the hitch pins than the originals while showing no signs of falling out.
