I was mowing the pasture when my 5 year old B7500 (<200 hours) sputtered and then died. I tried to restart it, but no luck. It cranks and tries to start. I get some black exhaust smoke and it seems like it wants to run, but dies. I was thinking fuel problem of some sort, because it will crank and tries to start. The battery light flickers when I'm cranking. Anybody got any ideas before I call the dealer? Thanks.

I'm sure there are people better able to answer this, but I would check fuel filter, plugged screen in the fuel tank, bad fuel line, water in fuel. How was it running prior to stopping?

I would also suggest checking the fuel system and in particluar the fuel filter. If it's cranking and not starting and was getting the proper amount of fuel it should be white/grayish smoke. If it's only a little bit of black smoke and not starting I would suspect the system is starved for fuel.

While it could be something else, I think fuel is right on target.

Calling the dealer isn't a bad idea, but before you take it in and pay them to dig into it, drain your fuel tank and lines and put a new fuel filter in with fresh diesel. Won't hurt, and is a lot less than shop fees.

defiantly sounds like fuel, check the basics,
1/.fuel tap is on, if memory serves me correctly it is part of the fuel filter assembly on a 7500, should be straight down.
2/.take the fuel tank cap off and then bleed it, sometimes the breather in the cap gets blocked, causing a vacum in the tank
3/. make sure that it is diesel in the tank, not gasoline, (hvae seen it done many times)
4/.what is the fuel filter like, when was it last changed
5/.is there enough fuel in the tank, sometimes when you are on an angle the fuel will run away from the pick up, the bigger m series kubota's are good at this.

as a quick check, throw a new fuel filter on it, while the filter is off, turn the fuel tap on and check there is fuel coming through, then bleed the fuel system and try to restart, let me know how you go

Guys, thanks for the ideas. I definitely need to replace the fuel filter anyways. The tractor's 5 years old and never been changed. Fuel level's at least half fuel. I tend to think that if it's not a clogged filter, then maybethe fuel had water in it. anyway, I'll report backj when I figure out the problem.

Thanks again for your help.

Does this model have a fuse for the fuel solenoid? Just wondering, as I had what sounds to be the exact same problem and it was a simple blown fuse. Sorry if this doesn't help, but its always worth a look through the fuse box.
