Greetings fellow tractor owners!! I have been following your discussions for some time and have gained significantly from them. Thank you all!!! Now I need your help. I am at the point in my owning and subsequent servicing where I need to change my air filters in my B7500. The owner's manual says to replace the outer and inner filter every year. I went in to the Kubota dealer to purchase said filters, got the outer one with no problem. They did not have the inner filter, but stated that the inner filter could be cleaned and did not need replacing unless it was damaged. While I appreciated the effort to save me about $30, I feel uncomfortable with the conflict with the owner's manual. What have you folks done about replacing the inner filter?

I wanted to replace both filters on by B7500 at about 50 hours. Bought both the inner and outer.

Went to replace them, and I could not get the inner one off. The filter itself broke off from the rubber housing and I could not get it off. Tried everything, but was reluctant to put too much pull or pressure into it for fear of breaking something.

Stuck the silver filter part that broke off back onto the rubber housing and haven't attempted to get it off since. Seems okay. The inner filter was (and still is) clean and shiny. Have replaced the outer filter a few times, as that gets all of the dirt.

In short, the outer filter seems to be the only one that's really important.

I concur with snowman. I have cleaned my outer air filter using a compressor. My inner filter did come out once, but I didn't see even the smallest piece of dust on it, so I put it back on. 24 hours on it so I haven't it changed yet.

The inner filter is a backup, should the primary filter fail the inner filter will collect the dirt that passes thru the primary filter. Unless you see contamination on the inner filter it is not necessary to replace it . If you see dirt on the inner filter it should be replaced rather than attempting to clean it.

That's good to know. I can't think of why the primary filter would fail though.

Would you by chance have any tips on getting the "housing" from the inner filter out? As I mentioned in my previous post, the inner filter broke on mine and I was unable to get it out. I just stuck it on and it's been okay, however, I'd like to stick a new one in if possible. I guess if it's just a back-up filter, I can just pull it out in pieces (ie: grab it with needle nose pliers and rip out small chunks at a time?) I only stuck the old one back on because I figured that it "needed" to be there.

Thanks.

All these replies are greatly appreciated. The owner's manual says not to touch the inner filter except to replace it. So it leaves a lot to the imagination about it being coated with something to catch the dust, or it being easily damaged, etc. Snowman has a good point, about how do we remove it once we determine it is dirty? Could be purchasing one will provide a clue, although at this point mine appears to be clean after 200 hours.

I think the mesh on the inner screen is so fine, the oil from someones hand might clog the parts they touch. Just a guess.
