Kubota B7100
I just bought an older B7100 with a FEL and a backhoe on it. It is in pretty rough shape, the hood and side panels are gone, the bearings on the front pinion are gone, it had no exhaust manifold or muffler on it when I bought it. I bought a new manifold and muffler and noticed it has a knock in it. Sounds like a bad bearing. Any suggestions? Best place to get the parts? Local dealer or is there an online place thats much cheaper?

The serial number is B7001-22647, any idea as to the year of this thing. I have looked but can only determine it is pre 1983, due to the 4 wheel nuts on the front.

Thanks,
amitysanimal

What are your intentions for the tractor?

If it's a keeper I'd suggest a complete engine overhaul or at least inspection.

I am going to keep it and run it myself. I plan to tear the engine down fairly soon and see what has gone wrong. I am hoping to get by with replacing the bearings and oil pump. I don't want to sink a lot of money into it, just enough to keep it running awhile. But, I will do whatever is necessary to get it running. I paid $2000.00 for it, so I figure even if I have to spend $2000.00 fixing everything, I'll have a nice 4x4 tractor with a FEL and backhoe for $4000.00.

Do you know of good service tech that can inspect B7001,for there might be more to the eyes and ears which could save you from becoming nickle and dime to death.

No I don't and I would have to rent a trailer to bring it to the dealer for one to look at it. I am going to bring it up to my fathers garage and have him help me look at it I guess. It will make a good winter project.

Are there any good places to order engine parts online, or is it just as cheap getting them through the dealer?

There is TractorSmart.com is your online source for Kubota online parts. for parts but since I am out west the shipping is a deal breaker. I have found prices at my dealer to be very reasonable, just slightly higher than tractorsmart but no shipping.

Do you have any pics? I also have a old b7100 with FEL and BH. Curious to see how similar they are, my serial number is b7001-59680.

If you are just looking for rings, bearings and oil pump, even though our local Kubota dealer is not known to discount much, I don't think you will save all that much ordering them online. Not to mention, they might be more willing to help you out with some guidance if you buy the parts from them.

I had a B6000 that all of a sudden developed a nasty knock, turned out to be a bad injector. You may want to check out that route before you tear the engine apart.

Good luck,

Gary

I don't have any pics yet, I'll try and get some on soon. By doing some research I found out the loader is a model b219 and the backhoe is a b629. My wife took some pics of me running it the other day, but it doesn't show much, I was a waya away from her. I'll try and post them tomorrow and maybe take some better ones.

I ran a John Deere 648D grapple skidder for 6 years and we used to check for a bad injector by feeling the exhaust when you first start it up, if a port on the exhaust manifold is cooler than the others, that was the bad injector. I'll have to check mine and see if I can feel where one exhaust port may be cooler, showing a bad injector. It wouldn't surprise me because it didn't have a fuel filter on it either when I bought it.

I also see you are in Winterport, I am living in Veazie right now and I am hoping to move to our 4 acre lot out in Carmel as soon as we sell this house.

I finally got a chance to work on the B7100 again. I got it started and felt the exhaust manifold, the front port was definitely colder, only got warm from heat transfering from the second port. While it was running I cracked the fuel line going into the front injector, no change in the engine and fuel came out. I tried the same on the other 2 injectors and each time the engine would start to quit. Tried it on the front injector line again and it still had no effect on the engine.

Would this mean the injector is bad?

Are these injectors worth rebuilding or would I be better off buying a new one?

Any suggestions?

A good diesel shop should be able to rebuild for less than $100. I am guessing taht a new injector is probably over $150.

I found a place where I can buy a used one for $30.00. I'll get them tested today and go from there I guess.

Check the compression on that cylinder. With any luck, you just have a clogged injector! If it is bad, just buy a new one. There are a coupe of good injector shops in Bangor.

Good luck,

I went to the shop on the Odlin road and talked to a guy there. He said to switch the glow plugs around and see if the front plug acts the same in the rear hole. He charges $40.00 just to check them and could be over $100.00 to rebuild it. That would be close to $150.00 bucks so I figured I would get a used injector from the guy at Maine tractor. He said the only way a bad injector would make an engine knock is if it was dumping too much fuel in.

All 3 injectors seem to be working fine. However, when I loosen the line on the front injector it makes no change in the sound of the engine, the back two injectors will make the engine die right down when I loosen the line on them.

Any ideas as to what other engines will fit? I have found a D950, D640, D662, D600 and a D622 on Ebay for pretty good prices, between $500.00 and $800.00. Would be better than trying to rebuild my engine, it has over 7549 hours on it and hard to say how long the meter has been broken.

Try moving the injectors around to see if the problem follows the injector.

I cannot tell you if those engines will "fit". With >7549 hours it may well be beyond your engines useful life, but before I went the replacement route I would test the compression on the suspect cylinder. And I would then at least pull the head. What have you got to lose? It may be nothing more than a bad valve. If I can be of any help, feel free to PM me.

Good luck,

Gary

I'll try it as soon as I get the chance. It looks like our house has sold so I'll be quite busy getting moved. Thats true about the head, it will only cost me a head gasket to have a look. I had the valve cover off and the lifters seemed quite loose, I don't have the specs to adjust them so I left them alone for now.
