Hello, I'm a proud new owner of a 1992 B7100 HDT. It's my first tractor, has 780 hours on her and I've been reading your forum to learn as much as possible about this little diesel. My question is in regards to the rear 3pt. lift. Everything seems to be working fine but when I first engage the lift lever I Hear/feel a grinding noise. It seems to be only when I try to ease into a lift and as soon as I push on all is good and the lift works flawlessly.

Anybody have any idea if this is normal, or a sign of needed maintenance? Maybe I'm not letting it warm up enough as I've only had it since January and it's been rather cold here in Vt.

I plan to do a thorough maintenance this Spring but need to snowblow my Grandfather's driveway this weekend and want to put my mind to ease that I won't be doing my new toy harm. Thanks for any advice you can lend!

I posted the exact same question when I first got my B7100. It's normal.
Here's a video of mine in operation.

Thanks Steve - That's what I love about this forum...always someone willing to lend a hand. Hopefully I can return the favor someday! - C

Thanks for not pointing out my mistaking my HST as a HDT :)

Mine makes some noise too, I think it is the fluid and probable squeek of the pressure relief valve. This would be why it's not as loud full on. Any pictures of your new toy, I mean tool? These little tractors can do so much work and last a long time.

Sounds reasonable. I have a lot to learn about diesel engines and hydraulics, but that's half the fun. I've been plowing my 700' very steep driveway here in Vt. with a Honda Foreman 450 ES for 10 yrs and it's been fine, but these last 2 winters have made me realize I need a backup for those really big storms. My 4wd B7100 HST came with a 54" snowblower, mid mower, scraper blade, chains and various other parts and should be just the ticket for heavy wet storms or to widen the drive when banks creap in.

I read all the threads about not starting a diesel engine unless you plan to run it for awhile and have been bummed that I haven't had any time consuming jobs lined up. That said, I'll take some pics this weekend while clearing my Grandfather's driveway. He's been in FL all winter and it hasn't been touched in awhile so should be fun. Can't wait! -C

What year is your Kubota? Primary uses?

Mine's early 90s, new style. Primary use is maintaining our laneway year round. It is also a big part of the building, renovating and landscaping that I will be doing for the next few years.

Mine is actually a B6100 from the early 80's but most of the stuff is identical. I use it mostly for yard stuff but that could be smoothing the pad for the pool, building a retaining wall or moving wood. Right now it's broken in half so I can replace the clutch. Got pictures of that in another post. I wouldn't worry too much about not running it long, mine's been around a long time and still purrs even though it has run for short periods many times.

Good luck with the clutch replacement! I used to do a lot of my own mechanic work but things have become so complicated with autos these days. Actually looking forward to getting my hands dirty when/if the tractor needs work.

Sounds like our uses are similar. Wife's only complaint is why I didn't buy this thing while we were building, clearing land, landscaping, etc. I've worn out a few wheelbarrow's in my day! -C

Tig, that is the exact noise my Kubota B7001 makes. Same exact movement to, so thats not a problem? I thought I might have a bad seal or somthing, but if its normal I wont worry about it. Great vid, since it helps explain what I was trying to search for better than words, lol.

As long as it stays up for a while you don't have a seal/o-ring problem.
