B6200DT shifter boot replacement

The old boot shot. I have a new boot and I cannot get the knob to unscrew off the shifter. Do I need to take the shifter off in order to get a new boot on?

I would bet it will screw off. Wrap it with duct tape then use a pipe wrench on it.

I figured it out after more Internet searching. it is glued on, heat up the shaft underneath the knob and it loosened the glue and twisted off. It worked.
