I have an older B6100 HST that has been a real work horse. It used to take about 3 seconds for the glow plug to heat. In the last two weeks it went to 6 seconds, then 8 and now the tractor won't start. I'm not real familar with
these small diesel engines, but I'm guessing I have a glow plug issue...

Anybody car to save me some money & givce me some direction on what to check, so I don't have to take it to the dealer...

thanks in advance.... ted

Does the starter turn the tractor over and how well?

How good is the battery? Check all the electrical connections and electrical cables.

Check all the fuel filters and make sure there is fuel at the injection pump. Perhaps bleed at the pump just to make sure.

Also try jumpstart with a different battery.:D :D

Good luck.:D :D

My first thought was battery as well... but if it cranks ok..... maybe bad glow plug? Not sure how they are connected, wait... checking manual.... looks like all the glowplugs are wired in parallel. Single wire coming from the big plug behind the dash and then a single ground. I would check that connector and especially the ground. Could well be that the glowplugs are not heating up well due to poor ground.

Battery is good and the starter spins as it should. I didn't get a chance to play with it today. It's on my list tomorrow... thanx

Does it make white smoke while you are cranking it?

cleaned all the electric contacts, charged the battery to a full charge, put the resister (The glowplug coil that heats up) back in & it fired right up but the coil in thre resistor burned in half & dropped a small piece of flaming metal on the floor. I had this piece tested by the local dealer and he assured me it was working fine. Bought a new one, installed it and the problem is gone.
The resistor is marked NGK 20a, part number on the resistor box was
15231-65954
083 DH 121-20
Cost $30.00 to replace..

thanx again for the responses
