B6100E Fading Paint Spots

My 26 year old B6100E has always been stored in a metal shed of the same age. The shed roof rusted, however, and before I realized it, rain leaked on several parts of the hood and fender and caused the finish to fade in those areas. I suppose the rain water stayed on the finish for some time because the shed was closed up and evaporation was slow.

The tractor now sits in a new dry shed.

This tractor's finish is otherwise as glossy and bright as it was when it was new but now these faded areas are there. Automobile polish seemed to make no difference and I am looking for suggestions on restoring these faded areas. I have not tried a rubbing compound. The original finish is so nice that it would be a shame to do a repaint job.

Any suggestions?

Try some Iron Out rust remover. Make a paste and apply to faded spot. See if it lifts out the discoloration.

I'd try the rubbing compound or toothpaste. It should take off the oxidized paint and not scratch the adjoining paint.

well i am a custom painter by trade, motorcycles, show cars, resotrations, that type of thing. you should be able to buff those spots out. it will probably be difficult to do by hand but anybody that has a buffer, 2 pads and some compound and polish should be able to work that right out. no real need for repaint.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions. I will get busy trying them and then get back to this thread with my results. Those discolored areas need to go somehow.
