Would a Kubota B6100 (16 hp) be suitable for mowing 5 acres ? I have 4 acres of horse pasture and a 1 acre yard. This tractor has a 48" belly mower which would be good for the yard. I would like to have a 4-6 foot bush hog for the pasture. The yard would be mowed weekly and the pasture 1-2
times a month.I don't want to end up with too small a tractor for what I have to keep mowed.

Hello Kim.
Knowing me I could be wrong,but B6100 Kubota I believe is a 14hp and the B7100 is 16hp.

As you know the smaller the mower deck the longer the job,but yes it can do the job.

Have you consider a B2710 also a front loader?
You may want to do other jobs around your farm in the future.

I'm sure I"ll catch some slack for this next statement.
I'm convince the more compact the tractor the better job it does.
Well in my case I have a tree farm on a side of a mountain where and about 75% of the land is slopes and turning ratio is tight,so a small compact tractor fits my needs.

Hope your land more level with less rocks and streams.

Take care and stay safe.

Kim - I think the 6100 would be dandy for what you need, but I have a couple of concerns. Is your land hilly? If so, the older (before 1975 I think) 6100 does not have a ROPS - I think this is an essetial piece of safety equipment, and would not use a tractor without one. You can still buy them directly from Kubota, and they are well worth whatever they cost. Secondly, if you intend to use a bushhog, no way in the world would you be able to go to 6 feet. 5 feet is pushing it, and 4 would be better. The bigger mowers are just too heavy to be used safely on a small tractor. Can it do the job? Sure, but at 48 inches it will take a while. This is not necesarily a bad thing though, as few things are as much fun as tractor driving!!

Thanks for the advice Paul. I'm new at this tractor stuff. There is a hill in the back of the pasture but it's sot so steep that it can't be safely mowed. I don't care how long it takes to get the job done because I LIKE to mow :) Right now the $$ stops me from looking for a bigger tractor. This 6100 is $3,500 with a 48" belly mower and a 4 foot bush hog for it is $350 more. I haven't seen it yet and was told it was 12-14 years old and 16 horsepower. According to Thomas, who also replied to this message, it's 14 horsepower and a older model. Sounds like the seller doesn't know this tractor or isn't quite telling the truth about it. Thanks for the info.

Thomas you ARE right. I looked up the 6100 tractors on tractortips.com and they're all 14 horsepower. I don't have any big rocks or a creek in my pasture, just one big tree stump.Plesae read my reply to Thomas too. Thanks :)

I have had a B6000 (which is the precursor and very similar to the B6100) for 5 years and I would say that it is too small for what you want to do. You need something more like a minimum of 17 or 18 HP with a 60" finish mower and a 4 foot rotary cutter. Maybe a B7100. With that much grass to mow I would suggest hydrostatic transmission. On my B6000 I often find that 3rd gear is too slow and 4th is too fast for mowing. Don't confuse a B6000/B6100 with the later B6200, which was a larger machine.
