Ok, here's a couple (probably more /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif) questions for you knowledgable and willing participants : 1) below and just forward of the seat is a oval knob with an arrow on it (looks like a knob) and a cap just beside it. What is it for? Hyrdalics, per chance? If so, 3ph hydralics? 2) I understand this motor has a govenor on it, a ball/ramp affair in the cener of the timing gear on the pump. It doesn't seem to do very much for me, ie: I have the throttle about ½ way, go up a hill or give her more speed, and the engine slows down without any sign of compensation by the govenor, unlike my fathers MF 165. Is this normal? 3) (Here's the "probably more" part) what should this thing idle at, and how do you set the idle speed, as there is no stop visible? My idle will drop a bit on it's own after a couple minutes idling. 4) As a newbie, does anyone here mind if I put my 2¢ worth towards someone's questions? Sounds like a silly question, but I'm just like you folks, and if I think I can help, I like to try, but I don't want to offend anyone or seem like a wise-guy.

BTW, just for grins, I'll tell ya I took this tractor home in the back of my 1991 S10 ext cab. I had to go about 30 kms, and in the trailer behind was the mower deck. The guys at work thought I was nuts. Funny thing is, the suspension never bottomed out. It gets better yet, as my truck has a 2.2L Isuzu diesel that I put in there, with a whopping 58hp and a 5 spd. However, that's another story...

Yup, controls the rate that the 3ph drops when you let it down. Close it up enough and the 3ph won't go down, open it up enough and a heavy implement will drop real quick /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

The governor on your motor only prevents it from overrevving. It will not automatically add power.

What I think you're running into is that when you have the throttle at 1/2, say, and you push the hydro pedal down that the engine just slows down. This is normal for HST, because the HST pedal is almost "anti-throttle". The more you push it down, the more power is required. There are a couple of really good explainations about how HST works for folks that are used to gear transmissions - do a search, because you don't want to read my attempt any more /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif.

Idle depends - I don't know the spec for yours. Probably in the 800 rpm range. Mine changes depending on temp. Setting idle speed is done by adjusting the throttle linkage under the hood.

I don't, and would appreciate any input you have to my posts. I know enough to know that what I don't know is more than I know, if that makes any sense at all /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. For the most part, I think you'll find that the folks on this board are open minded, know that none of us know everything, and are interested in hearing what other people have to say. If we didn't want other people's opinions, we wouldn't be here.

I sometimes say the wrong thing, and if I do I am quick to apologize. I'm here to try and help, and to hear other people who are trying to do the same thing. Welcome to TBN!

You're nuts /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif. You will fit in here just fine! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm sending several copies of pages from my B7100 manual. The tractors should be very similar.

I have owned a B6100E (not HST) for 20 years. The only time I have operated it at less than full throttle is when I am just moving it around. You won't harm the engine and perhaps less than making it lug at a task. I ran it in this mode driving a generator for 10 days straight, stopping only to refuel, after a hurricane. I have had few problems with this tractor, it is rugged.

You guys are great! Thanks for all the kind responses, and the help. Nice to find a friendly place that's willing to help. I hope this tractor lasts me quite a while, at least long enough to pay for it /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif. Already I've modified it to be more comfortable. I've raised the seat about 2½" so I don't sit with my knees bent as much, as they aren't the best. Simply made a bolt on piece, so I can remove it if I don't like it. It is more of an upright postion like a full sized tractor. My exhaust is pointed up, so I had to put a longer "stack" on it to keep the fumes out of my face. Whatever works.

What worries me is that this makes sense to me. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You might think about pointing the muffler straight forward. Mine is set that way and it rarely blows in my face and feeds a little of the noise away from you. If you keep it vertical, be sure you have a rain cap on it. Enjoy.

I'm near New Glasgow. About 2~2½ hrs away from you I believe. Or 3½ if I have the Kubota on back of the Sonoma. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for the advice. I see almost all are pointed forward, and I'm not sure why anyone set it up to point up. Rain is pretty much not a concern as I keep it inside the garage when not in use. I will likely point it forward as I've already got whacked by tree limbs that were caught by the "stack".

We had a parade today at a local town - Canada Day - and there were a few old tractors there. 4 or 5 old John Deere (a couple opposed-twins, I believe), and an old Oliver. These were as good as new. I'm not up on my tractors, though my father-in-law happens to be a very experienced tractor /farm machinery mechanic. He could've told me what they were. They sure were in mint condition. Someone spent a lot of time restoring. Nice to see.
