the button (the grapple is wide-open in this shot). Unlike some other installs I've seen, my hand never leaves the control stick. The button controls a diverter that the curl/uncurl hydraulics route through. Pressing the button while pushing right (uncurl) closes the grapple, pressing while pushing left (curl) opens.

Messick's put quick release hoses on everything, so it's easy to reverse the open/close (Neil and I tried it the other way around, but it seemed more intuitive the way it is now)
or completely remove the grapple, or remove the entire FEL.

Now that is a functional looking bucket. Might I ask what the final installed cost was?

It was about $1,700 for the complete installation, plus about $300 for the toothbar, which I would strongly recommend.
