I purchaced a used Kubota B2660 snowblower and want to change the gearbox oil but I do not have an owners manual. Could someone with a manual let me know what type of oil goes in the gearbox and how much to fill it? I noticed it has a bronze gear and some types of gear oil are not good to use with bronze.
Thanks, Andy

Not familiar with the Kubota snowblower you have but most of the ones I have had over the years take a NGLI# 00 grease which is a semifluid grease. Stop by your local lawn mower/small engine reapir shop and they should have it in 1 qt squirt bottles. If they give you a funny look tell them you want the gear grease that goes in a Snapper riding mower that comes in the 1 qt bottle, it is a NGLI# 00 grease.

I have also drained gear oil out before and replaced it with NGLI# 00 grease. Being thicker it does not leak out like gear oil does. Also works great in roto-tiller gear box's.

I had the kubota B2650 front snowblower, i ran 80/90 gear oil. Thats what was in it from the factory.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to find out what oil Kubota recommends and how much to put in. Is Super UDT or gear oil recommended, like in the front axel?

Kubota recommends SAE90 gear oil. Remove the top and bottom plugs, drain, replace the bottom plug, and fill until the oil starts coming back out the top plug.

No problem.

Lawn King is correct. I Should have been more clear, SAE80W/90 is what you want. It's probably all you will find in colder climate areas anyways.

Hi kubotaone, long time no post, good to see you alive & well. While i have you on the phone (sorta speak) my 2782 is going into action this winter, was the problem with yours that the master link was on the drive chain backwards. Thanks Scott.

For a snowblower in cold weather I would install a full synthetic 90w gear oil. Much better low temperture flow. Many are offered, such as Mobil 1 available by the quart at many places, including Walmart, and Autozone. To higher end products such as Amsoil. 90w at 20 degrees F is like molasses. Your call.

Thanks King, hope things are well with you.

The master link was on correctly. I think my chain breaking problem was with the chain tension mechanism. Can't say for sure, but I think the chain was tightening up on its own. There are two plates, approx 2" x 4", that bolts go thru and hold the sprocket assembly tight. Those plates were really thin metal, and were distorting when they were tightend. So I ended up making thicker plates and used case hardened nuts and bolts so I could really get it to hold.

Also, my blower wasn't sitting straight. So when I was installing the new plates, I loosened off the 4 (?) main bolts that hold the auger housing, placed a block of wood under the low side, lowered the whole blower down and tightened up the bolts. Damned if it didn't work, I guess there was just enough play in the bolt holes that it now sits perfectly flat.

Since doing both the plates and levelling, I haven't had any problems.
