I am looking at getting a 2650 with 60" mmm. Machine will be used to mow about 2 acres mostly open ground other uses will be using 3. Aerator, stone rake, scraper blade etc. I have not seen much chatter about these other than the 3350 and I'm not interested in that unit.

I need the 3. Lift capacity for the aerator or would consider a BX. Anyone using one of these with the mmm ? How is the cut quality ?

Thanks

Mike

I don't think there is much difference between the B models and BX models in what you describe. The main differences would be in the size of the implements to match up with the tractor model; and even there, the performance differences would be moot. The MMM would perform the same on any of those models.:2cents:

Mike,

One difference to consider is that the MMM for the B2650 is NOT a suspended mower, it will ride on the ground. The BX and smaller B series have MMM that are suspended with anti scalping wheels, which for many is preferable. One of the reason I chose to go with the B2601 was for the suspended MMM.

Curious how the "floating" vs suspended decks actually work? When you lower the deck does it just go down until it contacts the ground? Do you not "set" the mowing height at all...except for adjusting the scalping wheel height setting? Must have much sturdier scalping wheels than a "suspended" deck does?

I am also looking at the B2650 and B2601 and the deck difference confuses me a bit. I mow quite a bit of uneven field and trails. I need to raise deck periodically to avoid moderate rocks/small tree stumps/large roots...also have depression in ground that could be subject to scalping.

I had a dealer used BX series (2250 maybe) with 60" deck and it was great at handling the uneven terrain in my field. I believe the BX decks are all suspended. My current lawn tractor 42" is suspended but so beat up that I think it actually works as a floating deck riding on the scalping wheels most of the time.

Perhaps either would work just as well for my purpose? MXBX and others what has your experience been and what traits specifically caused you to select the B2601 with suspended deck instead of the floating deck on the B2650??

Thanks...Tom R

P.S. BTW...how much ground clearance is there when the deck is fully lifted? Do you end up leaving on for most other work or is the reduction in ground clearance frequently a problem causing you to remove the deck whenever not mowing? Thanks...TMR

The Kubota ground contact MMM mowers do a great job. Obtain a "Green Machine" deck leveling tool, costs less than ten dollars at the green store, set the deck up on a hard surface and enjoy many months of mowing. Now if one has swallows, swells, ditches, or gullies in their mowing area they will have to plan how to mow them without scalping as with any other mowing deck.

I have found the ground contact mowing decks to also be heavy, so also take that into account if you plan on putting on and removing them often or on a regular basis.

Can anyone post a picture of the MMM for the B2650 (while on and off the tractor). I am curious about the wheel configuration, particularly on the rear of the deck. I find that with the suspended deck on my Massey, when the anti-scalp wheels hit the ground, they gouge the turf on occasion. Simplicity, which is most famous for only using floating decks, uses a roller on the back of the deck. It lays down the grass for nice stripping, but it also spreads out the weight of the deck much better.

How much does your aerator weigh?Mine weighs just over 500 pounds and I have used it behind a BX2360 with no problems.I should add it is a TPH mounted aerator.

Okay here is a update. Yesterday the local dealer dropped off a 2650 with turf tires for us to demo, no mower tho they did not have one with a mower on it. I'm sure the mower will cut nice as i have had several kubota mowers and all cut nice both mmm and front cut. Our concern was ride quality and the large turf tires and suspension seat proved very nice although the armrests on the seat we found useless. Also the 3. Had no issue lifting the aerator, however moving with it raised was not so good. I will definitely need a full set of front weights to drive with the aerator lifted, the aerator I believe is 1000-12000 lbs. it is an amazing unit, first products areivator AE-60.

All in all I really liked the tractor I just really want to be sure it will meet the tasks before I pull the trigger

I just looked it up,that is a serious looking aerator.

I like the idea of the deck that rolls along the ground - it would seem as though it would follow the contours better, no? Unless there are tight dips and holes I suppose.

I love my 2650, although I do not mow with it. The loader even with 60" bucket works awesome, it runs a 58" tiller like nothing, and putting a trailer hitch on the 3pt hitch works great also. I fabbed up a plow to mount to the quick attach loader and that worked great as well, no problem pushing 78" of snow with R4 tires loaded and a ballast box. 199.9 hours on it, and they've all been great :)
