b2650 upgrade alternator?

I have a b2650 rops and have found the need for a bigger alternator. Does anyone know of a kit, or if the cabbed one has a bigger one? I'm pretty sure I could make something work but hesitant to go changing to non approved ways at least until my warranty is out. Thanks for any input. Adam

Check with your dealer re your model. Kubota has (had?) an alternator upgrade kit for the B-series. I installed the upgrade on my B7800 about 10 years ago. The kit cost about $200 CDN back then.

The alternator on the tractor should be a 60 amp. What do you need more power for? I think it is a denso alternator so it should be pretty easy to get a larger capacity one or take the one you have to a alternator shop and have them upgrade it. You might also find an online retailer to buy parts from to upgrade your current alternator. It is pretty simple to replace a stator and rotor with upgraded components.

It's defiantly not a 60amp, not a classical looking alternator but can't think of the name. Put 2 180watts led light bars on and 2 more 18w at led floods. Put a voltmeter onto the battery while it's running, no lights and it's around 14 volts, lights on and it drops to 12.5ish.

It is called a Dynamo. Basically just a DC generator good for about 13 amps of output. Enough to run the tractor and one rear worklight. To run your extra lights you need to upgrade to an alternator. When I bought my B3030 in 2005 I added the alternator kit from Kubota. It is 43 amps and come with all the hardware and wire to install it. I have 3 extra 55 watt halogen lights on the ROPS. No problems at all and I still have the original battery. Good luck.

I talked to the salesman that I bought the tractor from. I would think that you could get it through parts. It is a common upgrade.

You might want to check and see if it is cheaper through what Kubota calls "wholegoods". This is often cheaper than ordering the individual components through the parts department. Sales should be able to help you out with this.

Thanks for the advice. I looked through some parts diagrams on their website and found the rops comes with a dynamo while the cab comes with a 60 amp alternator.

Talked to the salesman/gm and he said they don't have a kit at this time but will let me know if he comes across one. Emailed kubota about it, may just end up making something work...famous last words" how hard can it be!"

I upgraded my 2200 a few years and tractors ago and it wasn't a hard fix at all. As I remember, the kit came with everything to make it work.

I've been wondering if you could just buy a standard alternator from an autoparts store and rig it up. The Kubota uses a simple v-belt to drive and a pivoting alternator mount for tension. I bet you could adapt just about anything on there that is self-exciting.

Was considering that, just use a 1 wire setup, if I remember correctly there's 2 from the dynamo. Either run it to the battery or tie into the hot on the starter.

I have a concurrent thread to yours about upgrading to an alternator. I saw you posted to it but I don't know if you checked it lately. KyleH posted a kit with PN that is made for the B2630 (as well as some older models) and he says it fits perfectly. That PN is K7324. I have my dealer here getting me price and availability but I'm pretty excited to find a ready made kit.

Yup, the kit (B7324) from Kubota for the B2630 will fit the B2650 just as well.
