I am building a new house on 5 acres. Eventually I will just be cutting grass and playing around. Now, my plans are to move dirt fill in low areas clean up the area and general landscaping. I can purchase a new B2410 with loader for $16,114 including tax. Or I can purchase a used (55 hours, 1999) B2710 with loader and 72" rear mower for $15,500 from an individual (no tax). Any comments on what would be the best buy. I do plan on buying one of these. My only concern is buying a used one.

The 2710 with only 55 hours??? Geez, it's just barely broken in! I'd want to let a dealer take a good look at it, and if he gives you the green flag, I'd go for it. Not that there's anything wrong with the 2410, but you get more tractor for the money with the 2710. Of course, look at the size of the machines...sometimes smaller is better depending on the lot, but I'd take a good hard look at the 2710.

Have fun, either way you'll have a great tractor.

The 2710 with that few hours sounds like the deal to me. I would let a dealer give it a good once over if the report comes back OK go for it, the six foot mower alone could cost you up to $2000.

The 2710 does sound like the deal (55 hours is nothing) - you may be able to even get him down a little lower. I just wonder why the guy is selling? - wouldn't be because he really needed something bigger, would it? Uh oh, I may have opened another can of worms... ;o)

I got a used 1999, B2710 this past April with FEL 72" MMM and 60" rear snow blower for $13500. Had 126hrs. on it when I got it. I think that the price is of $15500 is a little high for only having a rear mower, as they are alot cheaper than a belly mount. It is a more tractor than the B2410 and you will be glad you got it. If you can get it for $15k and under it will be a great deal. Carver has some used ones for that price and thats from a dealer not a privite owner! so try to talk him down, or ask if he is going to warranty it for any time? A dealer most likly would, so that is a bargining chip in your favor. Then buy the B2710, you won't be sorry.

I'm going with the general trend on this one. As long as the 2710 isn't too big for your use, then go for it. It is 10 or 12 inches longer than the 2410, so turning in tight places would be the major concern. Likewise, if you're getting this through a dealer, see what sort of warranty transfer is available (or if).

I bought a B2400. My use is about the same as yours but I have 12.5 acres. The size of the 2710 would not be a problem for me and right now I could probbly use the extra power. However, after I get most of my place in shape, the 2400 will do all I need. Having said that, I did not want to spend the extra $ on a 2710. But at the prices you are quoting, I would have gone with the 2710. As others have said, look at the size and whether the 2410 is better or not from that standpoint.

The reason I did not get the 2710 was the size. I still intend to use the 2410 for mowing duties and also one property I own has several areas that require close manuvering and I felt the smaller wheelbase would be beneficial, I also thought the increased weight of the 2710 would harm my lawn even more than the already to big 2410.
The larger tractor has some clear advantages also and with only 55 hours it is hardly "used" so if you have wide open spaces and could use the extra power get the 2710.
I also liked the ability to adjust the width of the rear wheels on the 2410, it's transmission seemed smoother and it turned tighter.
You have a tough decision. Good luck.

Well I finally decided on which tractor to purchase. I went with the B2410, I liked the smaller size. I was concerned that it might not have the power required to move dirt with the loader and a 5ft box blade. What a pleasant surprise, I spent 5 hours on it the first day. I am a little sore but very pleased with the performance. I compared prices and the local guy was 1,300 higher that a dealer in the south. I only had to to go 45 miles south (Toledo) to get a very good price.

i have the b2400 and absolutly love it, BUT IF i had the same deal u have i would go for the 2710(if it is not to large for your needs) if it fits in your garage, and is not to heavy, for your yard then go for it. can never have too much power.
