I've just purchased a B2410 and want to mow a rough 4 acre field. After a little hand clearing the main job will be to keep the spirea and goldenrod down. The field is not smooth. If anyone has any advice as to the kind (hog vs finish) and size and brand I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Would suggest a brush hog--preferrably used. Doesn't sound like a finish mower is warranted, and could risk damaging on rough terrain--especially a belly mower. Plus you'll have more $$ for more toys! Suggest seraching the posts for experiences with various brands. Good luck.

I have had a Rhino and a Bush Hog and they both worked very well. The Bush Hog is a medium duty and as such it is heavier constructed and has chain guards to keep from throwing rocks and wood at you or your car. The high tip speed is the key to getting a nice finish look to the cut (as are sharp blades). The mowers are very powerful and I have put a blade through 1/4 inch thick steel posts, so pick up the area before you mow it the first time. If the grass is high cut it down to 12 inches and then do it again after you look it over carefully. A tire cost me a $250 gearbox on the Rhino the first time.

I would not EVEN consider a finish mower for your type of mowing. The Bush Hog cuts nice and is very rugged.
