Hello All
I came across a B1700 for cheap that apparently has a clutch that is inoperative and won't drive. It is an HST 4wd model. 900 hours

What might be wrong and how hard/much is it to fix?
if I can get the price cheap enough I was thinking of picking it up to tinker with and use or sell

Sounds like there is a whining noise between the engine and the bell housing when releasing the clutch.

Sounds like the splines are out on a shaft or the center of the clutch disc is kaputt.

He says that after releasing the clutch once, taking it up again, and then releasing it, he can get the shaft to turn, but it makes that whining if that helps specify things
How does one do that without hurting the transmission in the process? Unless something was frozen and then activated?

Anyway, if the clutch disc is bad, that doesn't sound as terrible, but I am not familiar with the hardware involved. But the splines on the shaft sounds like a whole different matter.
Cost and difficulty to repair on either?

Wish I had something more to offer than moral support...I have a B1700 4x4,gear...
It's a mighty machine for it's size...good luck...

Not sure if my 2620 is the same but they provided a block to keep the clutch disengaged if u didn't use the tractor for a while. Think the unit would rust together. Not sure if that is your situation or how to fix. There is a drain plug at the bottom of the bell housing. U might want to investigate and see if yours is the same Good luck

Check all the other stuff too. Trans fluid level for one. Do the hydralics work? If the engine isn't turning the driveshaft, nothing else will work either.

It's always hard to tell definitively what is wrong, without disassembly. To do so I'm anticipating the tractor will need to be slip to gain access to the clutch/pressure plate. It's not that hard to do, but need the means to support the tractor halves and be able to move at least on half to gain access. I'm guessing the clutch stuck to the pressure plate (rusted to it) and came apart. If replacing the clutch I recommend changing out the clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, pilot bearing and if there is any return spring inside the housing additionally.

Clutch/Pressure Plate and Throw-Out Bearing are approximately $305 using Messick's online ordering.

I am confused. I thought that HST meant hydrostatic transmission, and would not have a clutch. Inquiring minds need to know! Here's an open invitation to slap a new TBN er around, without regret. Also, if the hyd pump is driven off the front of the crankshaft, I think all the hydraulics would operate, again, I don't know. May the slapping commence!:confused3: 445A

On our B7500HST the clutch disconnects the transmission and in doing so disconnects the hydraulic pumps, the HST and the PTO. Most CUT and SCUT tractors have the hydraulic pump inside the transmission.
