My neighbor has a B Allis that he is restoring. He is looking for a battery box in good shape or an after market new one. Is this a good idea or should he just have a welding shop make one up?

They are easily found already made to fit the B. It would be more work to have a local welding shop try to fab one up compared to just buying one from a restoration shop and have it look original.

check the old allis news a rag for orange owners. that and most generic antique tractor mags. bat boxes are easy to find.
