I posted this in another thread (dump trailers), but no replies. Any adventages/disadventages in using axle straps to tie down a small tractor? The reason I want to use'em-limited space in my 12' dump trailer. Anybody?

As long as there are no sharp edges to cut the straps, it should be fine.
I have thought about using them on the front axle and a chains on the rear.

I have 4 of them in my trailers tool box. They work just fine but I use them mainly on cars, not tractors. I have used them on tractors from time to time.

I use them on my tractor and when I haul my jeep. They are as stong as the straps. And if you get a bad spot in one they are cheaper to replace than a new strap.

Call me paranoid about safety, but I prefer to use chains and rachet binders whenever I am hauling anything larger than an ATV or a lawnmower.

Chris, when you used them on tractors, the center of gravity is higher then on cars. Did you just used 4 axle straps? Any additional straps/chains?

I just use them where it needed. For example I transported a freshly painted 8N for a friend. No way I was going to wrap chain around it so I secured the tractor with two in the rear and then hooked to the brush guard in the front.

If you keep cotton rags handy to put under them, chains won't scratch the paint.

I have had the opposite experience. I have uses old floor mats and conveyer belt but towels and rags have ate though and done damage. Does not matter though because I am properly prepared.

I have in my tool box on my trailer:

2 J Hooks like a tow truck uses
4 10' Grade 70 5/16" chains
2 boomer
4 10' ratchet straps rated at 10,000# (3,333# break)
4 25' ratchet straps rated at 10,000# (3,333# break)
4 18" axle straps
2 Jack Stands
3,000# winch
8 plastic strap edge protectors (Like Truckers Use)
