I hate all those 'shows'. What I don't understand is why channels like History, Geography and Discovery have them. Why would the History channel show Axe Men? Turns me completely off TV.

I look forward to Nature on PBS (remember the old days with George Page?), NOVA, Nature of things, and MAYBE a documentary if the lousy "educational" channels actually get around to putting one on.

I have tried watching shows like 'Orange county choppers' and while I really like the craftsmanship the soap opera makes it unwatchable IMO. Can two grown men actually be that immature? Maybe if David Attenborough added some personal drama, a drawl, and repetitive scenes to his BBC series it would sell better to the average Joe.:confused2:

I really agree with that. I have basically stopped watching discovery. If I want to watch a tv quiz show, or a hidden camera prank show, I would go to comedy, not discovery. There are still a few good shows on discovery, but not many. History is still good for the most part, but a lot of there ''hit shows'' suck.

Ice Road Truckers is another one...Watching a trucker drive on snow and Ice talking about how he can die at any minute..go over the cliff, fall through the ice, miss a gear sifting uphill....Come on...all fake and exaggerated to make folks watch...

C'mon, nobody watches 'Swamp Loggers'? Bobby seems like the nicest guy in the world to work for and the show doesn't appear to be 'staged' much at all. The guy can spend $50,000 on breakdowns and repairs and all he can say is, "Well I guess the good Lord didn't want us to move logs this week...we'll have to try harder next week". How freakin' awesome is that guy?!!

Bobby treats his workers good and takes care of them. Probably why some
have been with him so long. I think his main cutter has been with for over 20 years.
There's not a bunch cussing and fighting and junk going on, you might see them
praying some too, I like those folks.

Swamp Loggers : Discovery Channel

There's a short ad before this video starts.
Swamp Loggers: Meet the Loggers : Video : Discovery Channel

I'm with you, we don't miss an episode of Swamp Loggers. Those idiots on
Axe Men cause me more stress than it's worth. I hope it's all an act, because
if that boat logging guy really treats his son like he does on TV, I'd like to
stomp a mud hole in him, having just lost my son I can't the life of me
figure out why anyone would treat their kid like that.

If that guy that grabbed the other guy by the throat the other week had done
that to me, when I was in my prime, he would have picking himself up off
the ground, job or no job.

I like Swamp Loggers a lot. Seems to be just honest people struggling to maintain the best lifestyle available to them despite the hardships. Bonus for a great week is a well received free lunch, that's people that respect each other.
Axemen would keep the entire northwest OSHA staff & worksmen's comp people busy full time. I enjoyed the first few episodes because I knew nothing of how high line logging was done. Now it's just outdoing the stupidity of the previous episode. If I got hurt or had as many near misses as they manage to catch on camera the cameramen wouldn't want to turn their backs on me! A friend of mine was in Hawaii in December and saw the old man Jack from Gold Rush hanging out on the beach. He said lots of people went over to him, talked and shook his hand. Digging for gold, pardon me, show business is not too bad in the off season. I have watched most of the shows but it is too many past clips, previews and commercials for an hours time.

I like these shows sometimes, it just depends on how much drama and how much is staged. I started watching loggers, and when people talk and they have to bleep out every other word, it gets old. I enjoy these shows when they show how these people work in a fairly realistic manner.

Pawn stars is O.K. There is an offshoot from this show called American Restoration, and I've only seen one, but it was pretty good. American Pickers is O.K. Antiques Roadshow is still my favorite, but its a true "reality" show. You just have to realize that even on the shows that don't overdo the drama, that some of the stuff is going to be staged for the cameras.

your right... i did watch pawn stars a few times, and it was ok-ish. I did enjoy the stupidity of the thing at times.

dont get it anymore as i dropped the sat dish, but i dont miss it.

Haven't seen too many of the shows mentioned here, but I do enjoy Flying Wild Alaska and Ice Pilots NWT.
One of the biggest problems is that these "reality shows" are cheap as chips to produce and as long as the viewing audience keeps gobbling up what they trowel out more and more of the better quality and more expensive shows won't make it past the pitch.

I like flying wild alaska also its a good mix
of pilots and the culture up there. They dont overdue it and it seems less staged. All the people seem to be quit charm..Im not a pilot or ever flown but ive learned a few things from that show.

flying Alaske was ok, as was alaskian state troopers the few times i watched both.

But the flying alaska is as staged as the rest. I wached a scene where they kept saying...i hope we can put this thing down here safely.....i shure hope we dont crash.

Thene miracously the film crew that was on the plane is on the ground watching the landing. so its obvious that they had already landed before to drop off the crew.

yup..... faked again.

If you have good internet speed, you can watch alot stuff for free on the History channels website. I dropped my dish also, but can still see a few things.;)

I haven't watched Axe Men but have seen the promos for it. It looked like the rest of "Reality TV", staged scenes and producers encouraging drama just for ratings. The worst one is Lizard Lick Towing, though I admit, it's a guilty pleasure. Dude gets stabbed while the cameras rolling....Right.

i have great download speeds, and i used to watch some stuff online... but not so much more.
Its amazing how quickly you find out that TV and TV shows don't really matter much after you stop watching it.

Anyone see a pattern here?
If a show on any subject even remotely catches on, every network on cable will have a copycat out in a month or two.
Witness all the shows about the same subjects, including storage unit auctions, logging, pawn shops, and on & on.
It all started out with biker build offs, Monster Garage and all these vehicle build shows that all follow the same formula. Big dollar job, always under the gun, within a hair of missing deadline, unit just being completed as the customer pulls in for delivery, etc.
I'm sick of all of them. (Except for watching Brandi on Storage Wars. ;) )

How about Shelby driving that jet boat so wildly he was trying hard to hit stuff low branches, ect.I would have Laughed my ***** off if he run 10 foot hardwood stub through his head.
Gold rush the same thing ,had to drive a 4-wheeler 40 miles to the town post office cause they could'nt get the generator started to charge the truck battery? How about you drive the loader over and boost the truck? I have heard the same old song for 2 years " boy if we dont find some gold I'm gonna loose my house" Pretty patient bank anit it? been working 2 years made 20,000 or so divided between 5 men and food and fuel brake downs ect. Discovery chanel is backing them all it's just tv.

Well I will say this, his worker got most of the meat ripped off his arm, that wasn't fake blood. My wife almost threw up watchin that one.

The poor guys arm was laid open like a gut deer.
