Auto-darkening helmet

Someday I will maybe splurge on a higher quality (larger viewing area) helmet, but I sure am glad I moved from HF to Miller. And then took too long to get cheaters. I suggest any of you older farts that haven't tried it, spend the couple bucks and install one. Wow... what a difference. And I owe Shield Arc for lending me his readers when I was at his place getting schooled. He preaches listening to the sound (I'm sure he could weld blind) but I sure enjoy a good view of the puddle and no eye strain.

I ordered a helmet from Amazon for about $35.00, it's an ANCHEER, it came with several cover lenses, will cover #9-13 and has a grinding mode, it takes a button battery.I ordered this to replace an old HF that I had for years. It's been a great helmet. It won't take standard cheater lenses but that's ok as I have been using a pair of glasses that my Optometrist set up to have the focal distance at about 18 inches, they're kinda funky to try to walk with them on tho!

In looking at the Pipeliner hood on Amazon, the headgear seems "questionable".

I see you can order other headgear, ratchet, etc.

Comfortable headgear has got to be beneficial.

Does anyone have a recommendation as to the most comfortable headgear to pair up with a Pipeliner hood and ArcOne auto lens?

Did not read all the comments but will add what I have found as it mimic most of what other have said....

Solar powered helmets do have batteries (some in sealed units) that will go bad if not exposed to sunlight often for recharge, the replacement module to my helmet now has replaceable batteries (2AAA)...

Found out green welding jackets reflect a lot of light (flash) in to back side of helmet, forget the green and go to black....

Lots of ambient light makes finding where you want to weld easier, even putting miners style headlamp on helmet helps...

IF you need glasses to see welds, get cheater magnifying lenses for inside helmet...

You can test a AD helmet with torch spark lighter of it does not have test button...

Change lens shields (plastic or glass) often...

Since I'm just learning, I figured I'd take the advice of a "Hobbyist". I ordered a pipeliner and Arc One lens, as recommended by Shield Arc.

Tried it today. It is amazing how much better I can weld when I can actually SEE what it is I'm welding.

Thanks, SA!
