He was the 4th in Victoria for these fires, I didn't know how many had been lost nationally.
I am not volunteering, would just be a liability now and know it, plenty of good people up for the fight though and asking for nothing, isn't it funny how those that make the most noise seem to do the least.

I too am an old Soldier. I accept that and understand it. It's a Brotherhood that is stronger than blood relations.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all the way.

Don't know how it works there but we have total fire ban days, the State is split into 5 or 6 sectors and can apply to some or all, a total ban prohibits the use of any open fire, burning off, BBQs, combustion engine machinery such as mowers, brush cutters, chainsaws etc, welders both electric and gas, throw a butt out of the window of your car and get caught expect a hefty fine.
There are exceptions such as powered water pumps for fire fighting, chainsaws in emergencies etc, a few fires have been started (accidentally) by emergency workers but are generally put out fairly quickly, these fires are almost acceptable as you know they were not deliberately started.
Regardless of these bans there is always a fool who will unwittingly start a fire through stupidity rather than malice.

Yes. Same here. I don't live in an area that has to suffer thru that very often. Occasionally we are under a total fire ban. But it's only for a few days a year. In my World fires are more than likely started by someone not thinking the process thru.

Fire is an extremely powerful act of nature. It ranks right up there with boiling temperatures and freezing temperatures. All part of living on this planet.

I am saddened that you are struggling thru the aftermath of uncontrolled fires. I can only hope that in the end it's not devastating for you.

For those that do suffer loss, we are supporting them.

I'll come down there if needed, just as you would come up here if needed.

Well said Richard . . .

I'm still 'in' as an Active Reservist (Navy). In November I was asked to submit an EOI to Canberra regarding bushfire support. Last week I received another EOI, asking for more details.

They haven't called yet... I'm 'standing by'.

I spent 36 years in the Army Reserves. I was repeatedly called into Service. That's what we do.

God Bless you in your service.

I haven't seen support from the UK, Elizabeth II reigns as Queen of Australia and I haven't seen any action on these fires by her..

Mate... first off, HM the Queen has sent messages of condolence and support to Australia. So has RHR the Prince of Wales.

The Australian Defence Force has been activated to assist... this can only be done by permission (once requested) by the Governor General [who's an Australian and Her representative = Head of State] {Note: I'm simplifying things, Canadians will understand}

Secondly, support from the UK wouldn't be that much use due to the distance involved and the expertise involved. The 'Commonwealth' are assisting, as are firefighters from the US who have skills to help... as we (Aus) send firefighters to the US to assist during your bushfires.

I hope that this explanation helps.

Disasters like this often serve to bring people together. I know that after the Murrah bombing, we had volunteers from everywhere come to assist. I remember in particular, the Firefighters from NYC and their rescue dogs. My opinion of NY city was nothing to shout about before that, but seeing them on TV with their rescue efforts brought tears to my eyes; out state and city reciprocated after 9-11. I will always regard them as a sister city with great affection. I'm sure that you will experience something similar. Those events restored my faith in the goodness inherent in humanity. Best wishes for all of Australia, and may God Bless.

Dennis
