I bought a new 4Wheeler recently and looking to hook up my Moultrie seed spreader. On my old ATV I hardwired an extension cord receiving end to the battery, and spliced the other end to the cord from spreader. On this one I want to avoid hooking to the ATV battery, and just have a carry on to run the implements.

What type battery do I need? Will a battery made for a boat trolling motor run the spreader?

A deep cycle battery is what you want but it will be more trouble than just using alligator clips to the ATV battery or hard wiring a power plug.

get you a couple cheap packages of 4 plug trailer connectors (for rear of vehicle / bump pull trailers) and just use a couple plugs on them...

battery on atv to a plug male
alligator clips to a plug male
Moultrie seed spreader to a plug female
other equipment to a plug female

makes things a tad more universial i suppose. any 2 plug setup could work. i just choose trailer plugs, due to nearly every store has them. vs some sort of special 2 wire plugs. just be careful and don't plug them into an actual 4 plug on back of vehicle or you might blow a relay or fuse on the vehicle.

marine batteries for trolling motors are normally deep cycle batteries.

I use the '2 wire' plugs also.

I have 2 pumps that I run extensively on my ATV. One is on my sprayer, and the other is on my foam marker. I probably spray 200 acres a year with my rig on athletic fields.

I run the sprayer with the ATV battery with some 2 wire plugs. I ran a wire from the battery to a switch on the handlebars and then back to the pump so that I can easily switch it off and on. This almost caused a disaster about 2 weeks ago, when the wires rubbed on the brake line over the years and shorted out and caused a fire between my handlebars. Luckily I was at my shop when this happened and one of my employees grabbed a water hose to put the fire out.

I run my foam marker with a separate battery on the front rack. I tried using small lawn mower batteries, but after a few days of spraying they won't hold a charge anymore. I now have a deep cell battery, which is much bigger and bulky, but it does hold a charge a lot longer.
