Spring is here and the weeds are in full force. After a day of spot spraying and a round of broadcast spraying weedmaster, I decided I needed a different method. After a little research I went with a rope wick applicator using round up to speed up the process and get other undesirable plants.

Looked at building the applicator as its pretty simple but they can be had cheap enough, so I just bought one. The mount on the other hand seemed a bit pricey at over $300. So I made this one that uses double split set collars to mount it to the factory brackets.

The 1/2" all thread in the center it to adjust the height.

Ordered it from menards. Its a green leaf product and cost $137. You could buy the parts to build it for $80 or less if you already had the drills and taps but figured my time was better spent on the mount.

I built my own mount. I control the up and down with the winch. I also use the same mount with wick removed and a plow point added to make my rows in my garden.Wick Plow 4.JPGWick Plow 5.JPGWick Plow1.JPGWick Plow3.JPG

What have tou found to be the best mix to use?

My 6' wick holds about 2 gal of fluid. I buy generic roundup in 2.5 gal jugs. I normally pour it straight out of the jug into the wick pipe. I use the atv mounted wick mostly around the house and other small areas. When I'm done, I pour what is left in the pipe back into the jug it came out of. I normally almost fill the jug back up. When using the tractor mounted, 20' wick, I normally use a half roundup to half water ratio.

I never tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't

Will a wick applicator work for applying 24D?

Yeah but be careful. If it is something you can't spray over the top off with 2,4D without damaging it you may not want to use it near it.
Tomatoes and okra for instance can be severely damaged just by using it near them.

If you are trying to get roundup resistant pigweeds out of clover in a food plot or something like that they yes it would work good.
