Hello, I just wanted to get some feedback as to what the public may think of this idea for an ATV log skidder, I know that I have seen many models online but I wanted to build something with material I had laying around the house.I also wanted it to be different and as well did not want to add winch because of getting many many wire peices embedded in hands from past years of using winch cable even with gloves on.I thought that I would use the leverage system to do the work.I have used this many times to haul logs out of bush to get sawed into lumber and the sawyer doesn't want them dirty as they are hard on his blades, this unit works well to prevent this from happening.I know that the tires are narrow,I put them on just because I had them laying around and wanted to make sure concept was going to work, it does, so now im going to replace with atv tires.I have lifted many large, long logs so far works great.

can you repost the pictures as .jpg or .gif files (open them in paint and click saves as on Windows 2000 or greater)

Thanks

It looks like it will work. Often the simplest things are the best. From what I see of your design, there's no need for a winch.

Great idea. Thanks for sharing.

so far it looks like it gonna work. the only thing that comes to mind is the how you gonna lock the bar bar after lifting the logs up ? i hope you had something rigged so it would automatically lock it self so if it didnt, it would come up and bang you in the arse or worse your head:eek: . could you elaborate on how you were planning to keeping the bar down ? may be a close pic in that area ? good work so far - smile.

looks like you better be careful how heavy a log you drag. might lift the back of your atv off the ground...

For what you're doing, it's likely fine. As Defective says, though, it might lift your ATV off the ground.

To transfer all the weight of the log that's lifted directly to the wheels, you might consider a more traditional logging arch design like one of these:

The main beam that holds the log has a 3/4 inch hole drilled into middle of square tube and then it rests when in the down position between 2 pieces of 1/2"x4"flat bar with holes in each of them so that you put pin in to hold log arm in down position.

just post them to the forum as an attatchment...
[rant]the problem with BMP files (and the reason I posted the request) is that they are 5-6x the size of .jpg or .gif files, in addition they do not open in a browser and have to be opened in paint. [/rant]
