Attack of The Coyote

The TV story said the coyote was really after her dog, with her then trying to save her dog by beating on the coyote's nose, but it still seems odd she was not injured worse. Also it may have seemed like 10 minutes to her, but more likely 2 at the most.

I saw this article on the news last night, I find this "attack" somewhat unbelievable, a ten minute scrap with a coyote and she comes out of it with a few cuts on her knuckles. No doubt something happened but not as she describes.

Harvey

My thoughts exactly, no one will fight with a canine for 10 minutes and only come out with a scrape on a knuckle. If this thing was hiped up into attack mode and jumped her the way she said for 10 min........... there'd be a lot more hurt.

Very disturbing. There is something wrong with the coyotes in the maritimes. If they are this aggressive they will need to be culled. Scary stuff. What if it was a kid?

There is always the possibility of a sick dog.
Strange story, but based on my experiences with the media I would say the story was twisted before it was printed.

More than likely the coyote set his sights on the dog and didnt notice her then she popped him in the nose and he figured he was out sized and numbered. I had a pet coyote pup one time and it bit me playing and I realized how strong they are. Even a determined dog would have been heck to beat off in 2 minutes.

Have you guys ever tried to kick or hit a even a domestic dog that wasn't your pet? I have. They are fast. Even an average yard dog. Makes you feel like you are moving in slow motion as it easily moves out of the way. Maybe I'm just slow and uncoordinated but I have a hard time believing that a woman fights off a coyote and the fight lasts ten minutes.

Now, if it was rabid, had distemper or was otherwise sick, maybe a different story. But even a rabid animal, if not too far gone, remains agile and fast.

I had a patient who was attacked by a rabid fox. In her garage. She was an older lady and did finally fight it back long enough to get inside but that fox ate her up. Hands, legs, arms. I put a good many stitches in her. And a fox is maybe 1/3 the size of a coyote if that big.

Anyway, who knows. Maybe its all true. Fact can be even stranger than the media's incompetence.

Think what Stephen King could do with that theme :eek:

It does seem like a strange coincidence with the singer who was killed earlier. Like N80 said, sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Who knows. Surely it would seem a lot longer than it probably was.

Wow this is terrible. I mean I see them allot. When I get firewood in my neighbors yard, he has 15 acres and I go way back in it and they will be there. I just load up my tractor with firewood and go. they get close but havent attacked me. they just look, hehe.

We see coyotes at my place all the time. Never seen an aggressive one. I even walked up on a black one (10 steps away at most) that was sleeping in the woods. I'd have shot it but at first I thought it was a dog when it got up. By the time I relaized it was a coyote it was gone. No aggression at all.
