Have you done such? I bought a 6' Meyers that has a basic frame, may have been used on Jeep CJ .. and I would like to be able to mount it to my 'new' JD 1070.

The plow looks much like this...

I would like to use my FEL arms to do the heavy lifting - if possible. I have been told by a "sage" that the actual connection to the tractor should be as far back as possible - mid body or more?!

I am sure one of you has pondered this and turned on your welder. I would appreciate some wisdom. Thanks.

Sure, it's possible...But you want to keep the loader on at the same time? I have seen that setup once on a Kubota (picture on this site somewhere) where he had a chain from the bucket to the plow to do the lifting, and used the dump/curl circuit for the angling. It looked very cumbersome to me.

As far a mounting, you want to make sure it's close to the tractor, hanging off the bumper. Braces to the mid section are a great idea. We can get more specific once we get a few more details.

The 380 blade I had for my 755 had a long I-beam type heavy frame piece under the tractor that went clear back to the loader mast mounts, but that was rare. Most anything else has some sort of quick hitch that just hangs from the front of the tractor. So yes farther back is better, but can interfere with other things and be more difficult to install. The guy I sold my 380 to cut off that long beam and adapted it to just hang from the front of his 2520. I agree with Kenny's comment about not using the loader, and would instead consider building a bracket for the tractor front frame to mount a lift cylinder.

IMO,I would forget about the idea,of using your FEL. If you are willing to put the time trying to "kitbash" that thing to your FEL, again,my opinion, time better spent figuring a frame mount.:):) You run such a risk of damaging you FEL if you don't have a way of letting the plow when angled "give" if you hit something.
I'm saying this because I just finished a plow mount that wasn't made for my tractor, with much appreciated help fron kennyd.

Kenny - I have also seen a pic of a blade hooked directly to the FEL, but this Kubota image scares me. I have seen some thrashed FELs while looking for a tractor.. I do not be the one to do it.

This J-D is more conventional - he may not have, or drops the FEL and mounts the cylinders like you would use on a pickup, etc..

I have only had the tractor for a week .. just bought the plow today, so am doing the initial planning. We do not normally get anything White 'till toward the end of the month. We got wack'd last year. It one of the reasons I upgraded from my 1957 Furgeson F-40.

I forgot to add - I could simply manually adjust the angle of the blade .. like I do the back blade when dragging the driveway. I'm originally from Wisconsin and Minnesota, so having to work outside here, on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, when it's +20 is no biggie. It's Caribbean Cruise vs. back in the 50's-n-60's when Winter was real.

The second picture is from user "beenthere", he will be along shortly I bet. His type of setup is the best for a homemade approach.

When you stated:

What exactly did you mean?

I have an older JD #380 plow adapted to my machine, it has the subframe to the mid section like JD755 mentioned. I will post pictures below. I have recently installed a Meyer plow on a JD 2320, but used the factory quick hitch. Thread here: Meyer's plow on a JD 2320 - TractorByNet.com

What other hardware did you get with the plow?

There is no reason to do that, you already have the hydraulics on the tractor-use them;) The plow did come with cylinders?

I am in MD also, about 3 hours away if you want to trailer it up here we will get you all set up:thumbsup:

Kenny - My thought about using the FEL arms was coming from my exhaust pipe .. stoopid. There's no cylinders with the plow .. for $300. I could not be too picky. Blade is in great shape and the frame complete. Thanks for the invite, but luckily I have a guy around the corner that builds drag cars and does pretty trick hyd. work also. He made me a Hyrdo crawler to go into the marshes and crush the 8' weeds we get out front. I'll find a pic.

Here is YOUR tractor with a 7.5' plow on it. All it took was the 2 'pork chop' brackets used to mount a mid mower, two square tube arms that go forward and downward to pick up the 2 'A' frame points and a short lift cylinder dropped from the front radiator guard/front weight bracket. I use the hydraulic outlets for the loader (incl. power up and down). The cylinders are stock plow truck parts from TSC or whereever. With the 1070's flow and pressure, you can toss snow laterally just by swinging the blade left to right.

On or off in 5 minutes. Plows gravel and dirt, too. I have some more pics around here somewhere that show the tractor frame attachments and the drop arms....
