At what point do you justify buying more tools vs making do with what you already hav

I have a way old Black and Decker battery drill. I have epoxied the handle together at least 4 times now, and I have crimped the battery cables internally twice. Then epoxied of course.

It just finished a run-in for me, lots of screws. It just keeps ticking along.

You know it is bad off when the wife wants to buy you a new drill every time she sees it, and you say no. LOL. Multiple times, no less.

This thread reminds me of the first rule of projects: Every project requires at least one new tool.
Now that I am in my sixties I find that I can occasionally ignore this rule.
I have over the years recieved some of the nastiest looks from some my friends wives when I informed them of this rule.

I went looking for a thread about battery vs. electric tools, but maybe this is the one I was thinking of. I get confused easily these days. The only other one I could find was on gas vs. electric.

Found a situation where electric wins out, hands down. Maybe it's the brand, the tool type or the task, not sure. Got a lime green Ryobi recip saw. It works OK, but only for short duty cycles, cutting small things. For sustained cutting, it gets too hot. The first one I had started smoking from the motor area after about a half hour, so I had it replaced by HD. This one almost gets to that point if I try to cut much more than a 2x4. When cutting 4x4s yesterday, I went straight to the corded Dewalt which handled the job easily. Is it just the Ryobi recip saws? Or battery recips in general?

I had many of the porter cable cordless 20v and old 18v saw zaws.
Biggest problem is, just like yours, they are the cheap box store ones. I tried to baby them but the second they touch drywall dust, they are toast.

I'm sure if you compared the cheap box store ones like yours and mine to a Milwaukee fuel series, they are trash.

Also when wife gives U a 'smoker' cook book for father's day it allows U to buy her a new tool for mother's day. LOL
(wife has as many cook books as I have tools.)

I like my cordless tools and they have never let me down yet. The set my wife got me for my birthday came with 3 batteries, a sawzall, impact driver, drill, circular saw, flash light, mini blower and I think that's it.. I always go by the old saying " Work smarter not harder." So if I can do it financial then I will purchase the tool that will make my job simpler and more time efficient because I need my time to be able to jump to other jobs quickly and also spend time with my kids. That said, I always get tools for the holidays and they always seem to come with a "Honey Do" list....

When the right tool for the job saves you time, money, effort, and less aggravation.
If you need it once chances are you will need it again.
It seems most of the time I put off buying a tool then finally break down and do, I kick myself for not doing it sooner.
