I can't speak for AT&T but we have been doing the same thing with Verizion for the last 3 years. Way better than dial up on our old phone lines. No options for cable or DSL. We should be upgraded to 4G by the end of the summer and that should make it even better.

We are light weight users and get 5 Gigs per month for about $50 per month. If you are a heavy user and down loads movies and such, be sure to check the cost of going over the monthly limit. I got hurt one time with that. Verizion has a mobil hot spot that is good for 5 devices at the same rate. We have found that useful. I'll guess AT&T has something like that.

In the USA internet access is a hodgepodge. Everything depends on one's location. If all you could get before was dailup then at&t wireless would be much better. The current big thing re wireless is the upgrade from 3G to 4G. The various companies are at various stages of that implementation.

My wife and I both tether through our 4G smartphones. We each have 5Gb plans, and it has been fantastic.

I tried both Verison and AT&T wireless, both did'nt work. Both told me if they did'nt work you got 24hrs to bring them back and they would refund my money. Both did that however Verison charged me for the next 3 months for the use.Had to finally go in to the store to finally convince them I was'nt obligated to pay.Lucky for me I kept all the paperwork.A.T.&T. was another matter unto itself, they kept billing me for 7months and what seemed like hundreds of calls later finally told them I was getting a lawyer and the BBB involved. That did the trick but it sure soured me on AT&T.I told them they spend a small fortune sending me junk mail each week offering me packages they do'nt have out my way.All that money spent on junk mail could've been spent on fiber optic cable.Even if they eventually run cable out my way,no way will I do business with them again.I went to Hughs Net,they offered free installation through the recovery act,it's the best move I've did.It sure beats dial up and never have a problem connecting through any kind of weather.excuse my rant but be careful w/some of these providers.Always keep your paperwork etc. in case you have problems like mine....russ

verizon wireless cards - service is very expensive - especially if you have any kids playing games on the internet

What Mark said is ditto for us. Verizon does have a 10g plan for about $80, but if you what allot of streaming web, you'll get cooked when the bill arrives. One movie can eat up almost the 1st 5g:laughing: Just surfing the web, getting my updates or other hardware downloads, the 5g has been great. I have a 4g compatible MIFI, but the service isn't out this far, but it is pretty fast at 3g (Verizon)

I suspect ATT would be very similar in most regards

We tried two wireless modems before we went to the phones. Apparently they give full bandwidth to the phone customers, and throttle the modem users. This was exactly our experience.

We use the Verizon MiFi hotspot and get 5GB for $50. I live out in the sticks with hills surrounding me. I have the MiFi hooked to a booster and directional antenna or I would get no signal. It has a download speed of 300 -500Kbps yes Kbps. Upload speed varies from 100-400Kbps. This is the best option we have available. It is better than sat from what I have heard.

Reception depends on how close you are to a tower. We have used Verizon in the past and the service with them except was exceptional. Verizon has no towers around where we live now.

We have had Hughes Satellite for 6-7 years. It's better than the terrible noisy landlines we had out here (sometimes we couldn't even carry on a conversation on the phone). Satellite is better than that.....somewhat....

Although Verizon shows good coverage here, their maps lie. Last May, AT&T finally brought 3G to the area:thumbsup: We bought an AT&T wi-fi unit primarily for camping but I am about ready to dump Hughes Satellite for the AT&T, it seems at least as good.

My son started with Hughes when he moved out here and dumped it for AT&T wi-fi even before his Hughes contract was up. I haven't heard any complaints from him.

Wi-fi speeds here aren't all that fast, usually 100-200 kBps but that's faster than Hughes.

Sounds too good to be true  When I checked their coverage for here, it said "NO" Ah, the price we pay for living out in the sticks!

I have been using a Verizon MIFI for 1.5 yrs and we have never been throttled to my knowledge.

I tried the Virgin Mobil MIFI (which used the Spring 3g network) - we had a lot of issues with being bumped down to 1xRtt (about 250kbs speeds) when the towers got busy..

From what I have heard on other forums Millicom is good to go and delivers what is promised.. They are a sprint and verizon reseller (depends on which modem you get).. They are the best value out there if for wireless internet..

We have been using the Verizon MIFI (3g) and except for the cost has been great.. We average around 1.5 mb service - our DLS was around 0.300 mb speeds and was always dropping..

We are on the 10 GB plan - which we pretty much push close to that limit every month.. We DO NOT even try to watch much Youtube, netflix, or stream internet radio..

IF Millicom offered a 20gb MIFI plan Id be all over it.. BUT when our contract is up I may consider switching to them and using buying a wireless router that the USB stick modem will work on..
