Obed,
Have you tried using the splitter in the vertical position? The advantage is twofold. One, on the bigger rounds you just roll them around and not having to pick them up. The second thing is take a round and use this as a seat and set next to splitter, this way youæ±*e not bending over the splitter. Helped process a lot of wood over the years, still hard but enjoyable work.

This is exactly what I do...I line up the rounds and sit on one an just roll them into the splitter set up vertical...makes it so much easier..then when I have split all those I line up some more ..I never end up lifting a whole round or bending much at all...Sure is better..

Obed, just wanted to comment, I like you thread. I'm a 'do it yourself' guy as well and while I'm not a professional at everything, I get things done as best I can and usually enjoy doing it. Keep it up!

Obed is kind of like Jim Carrey in the Truman Story. We are all watching from the outside and rooting for him.

Obed, you have an awesome place that is truly the fruit of your labor. I like your resolve and "can do" attitude. That is why i continue to read this.

Dave,
No I have not tried vertical yet. I am interested in seeing how that goes.

Kyle and sld,
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. This thread has been invaluable to us. There have been many times my wife and I have been discussing a house question and my wife has asked me to post the question on TBN to see what you guys think.

Do you ever just put the cut wood in the front end loader, position it so you don`t have to bend down, then put the split wood in the near by bin so you can then just lift the whole load up to wherever you store it? Tony

There's chemical totes that come with a metal cage and pallet, around here they sell for about $100 with the tank included. They would work great for firewood.

We use these IBC totes all of the time. We get them in 275 and 335 gal sizes - used. We pop the top of the cage off, then cut the tops out to make a very sturdy pallet with sides. Most will have metal pallets.

We order them by the semi load (60 per load). Your trucking cost is the major factor, but I have got them at less then $40 ea. Of course that's for a truckload.
