Arkansas tornados

well, we owned our new house for 8.5 hours till a 4ft diameter oak tree fell on it an had a limb sticking thru the roof. we signed the papers at 10am the morning of the recent Arkansas tornados: if i can figure out how, i'll post a couple pictures. insurance went into affect at midnight the night before!!
the house is located on the east end of the damage, maybe 1/4 mile from the center of the real damage.

had the ends blown out of his shop building.

I am so sorry to hear that, heehaw. Hope you have a contractor you like.

We bought our place a few years ago, had a deal where we had to rent-back to the sellers for a couple of weeks after closing. Somehow the insurance was not immediatly put in effect dispite numerous phone calls, and when we moved in there were signs of a party in the barn with candle stubs burned all the way to the wooden floor of the hay loft all's well that ends well

Hope you get everything put back together. Looks like a tractor project (be sure to bill your insurance going rate for those hours).

That's a bummer, sorry for the loss. I saw some of the damage up close further east of ya, Ashflat, Highland area. Nasty looking to say the least.

Dang! You can fix the house, but you ain't never gonna be able to replace that tree in your lifetime. What a bummer!

i have to admit, i'm glad to see the tree go: way to many leaves to deal with, plus i was having a heck of a time trying to figure out where i could put the dish and get a signal..now i can set it on the ground if i want to!!

i have the house water tight now, and am waiting for a roofer to work around to me: this is my first insurance claim and i have to admit, i am really satisfied with my insurance co: the adjustor showed up within 3-4 days: looked at things and found things i never noticed and got a check last week:
compared to most, we had very little damage: that tornado was on the ground for about 125 miles:

Hee, considering the pics I've seen of the damages in Clinton, & the stories from my GF, you came through it not so bad. The twister passed much less than a mile behind the GF's place, just west of Shirley. No damages to her place. Anyway, just wanted to ask if you've picked up your lottery tickets yet? You're one lucky son of a gun,not so much that the insurance was in effect, but more that you've been well treated by the adjuster & company. Glad it's working out!

we really came out of the whole thing very well: no complaints at all with the amount of damage or the treatment since. we have been insured with Nationwide for about 20 years, and they, the agent, has always been great to deal with and they came thru with flying colors on this. between Clinton and Mtn View, i think that tornado crossed hwy 9 about 4 times, plus you can look off in several places an see where it was going thru the woods.

heehaw Just found your comments of the tornado damage glad you missed the the main part. Live in Clinton s/w area and our house minor damage lost tractor building trees down across 80 acres and seems all on top of the fence. Roof to tractor shed found 1/4 mile away. The Kubota is warped. tools everywhere. Have the metal to a mobile home strung in the remaining trees. insulation matress kitchen stove parts. The bark and limbs removed from cedar trees with body of trees in field clean.All homes (5)west of this place for a mile were wiped clean to foundation. And it gets worse or stronger as it crosses Culpepper then into Clinton like a vacuum cleaner taking all.
How so few lost there is a wonder.
You must live close to Atkins area.

i live about 10 miles west of Atkins: but on Feb 5th, at 10:00am, we signed the papers on a house just east of Mtn View: at 6:00pm or so, a big oak tree was placed on top of the back part of the house: luckily the insurance started at midnight the night before: you can follow the tornado from Atkins to Mtn View, it crosses the hwy many times in that @100 miles, and pretty much wipes out everything at those crossings: it is amazing that more people didn't lose their lives: i know several that rode it out in vehicles: and a couple of the vehicles where tossed around like toys, but they survived?

Boy! Tornadoes are a lot of fun ain't they. Sounds like your family made it through OK, hope so anyway. Be a year ago tomorrow most of my family members lost everything in the Greensburg tornado. I had spent the 2 weekends before shingling our house. We were lucky, only had minor damage and insurance paid for a (new) new roof. Used to hate paying insurance dues. Not any more. Insurance is a necessity of life. Everything in your life can literally vanish in an instant. I have seen it happen.

Oh crud, I am a month ahead of myself. Next month will be the one year anniversary of the Greensburg tornado.
