Ariens GT Won't Start & No Spark

Hello, I have a total of 13 Ariens GT's and 3 of these have Kohler 17 HP Engines in them. I know this is a known problem and i wanted to see if anyone has a fix, there is no spark. I have replaced coils on all and they give me spark for am hour or two then quit again. I also have this problem on my Bolens with the same engine in it. Does anyone know how to fix this and get these to run? I also seem to have trouble with these engines starting in the cold. Any fixes are much appreciated thanks.

Im not familiar with your GT, but if you are frying coils i would be looking at the voltage regulator. I cant think of anything else that would fry the coil except if you have the wrong coil or a 6v vs 12v issue. Have you replaced the condensor and checked the points?

Is this 17hp Kohlar a twin cyk. with dual spark wiring. there is no voltage to the coil the spark is developed by magnetic pulse. puting voltage to the coil will burn it out. the engine is shut off by grounding the wire from the coil.
If this some other timing method don't know proper answers.coils are almost distruct proof properly connected.
