Arena Lights

I am getting ready to have arena lights put up for an outdoor
riding arena, Any suggestions as to how tall the lights should
be? The arena will be used for jumping and flat work.
(English style riding)

Go as high as you can (20-30 ft). My wife used to ride Hunter and now teaches dog agility. She has told me that there is little worse than trying to work at those two sports with the lights in your eyes.

Fixture height is primarily a function of the type of light you're using and design of the fixture. Without knowing what type light you plan to use, the question is impossible to begin to answer.

If you're outdoor I agree with Harv, as a general rule. Go with the arena floods and go 20 - 30 high. The higher the better as the light will not be focused and spread better. Also draw it out. Get the lighting diagram from the lights you intend to put up and make sure your overlap patterns are adequate. I've seen alot of arenas try and save a few bucks and put in one or two less lights than they should and then they have shadows and dark spots. Do it right the first time and you won't have to go back or regret.
