Are tractors with cabs becoming the norm?

I have two tractors, one with a cab (Deere) and one without (Case/IH) (not counting the little MT Deere!). The Cabbed Deere does the spraying, snowblowing, feeding in the winter and baling. The open station tractor rakes hay, picks up and moves the bales off the field, bush hogs, and other quick chores. I love both. There is nothing like a nice day working on an open station tractor. However, extreme heat or cold pushes me quickly to the cab. They both have their place, and I am glad to have both.

We have 6 tractors. Id love to have a cab tractor but it would have to be the 7th. The versatility of the 6 cannot be replaced.

Back in the 70's, I was a cop in Oakland, CA during the first big fuel shortage. Fuel guzzling Caddies would sometimes "spontaneously combust" or maybe it was friction between the loan papers and insurance policy that sparked the blaze. We'd often find the burned out shell under an overpass - got to be a standing joke.

Find an overpass. Get a cab :c)

Personally, as a farmhand who runs tractors on a daily basis, I love open station. A lot more than cab, except in a very few circumstances. I like the visibility, the ability to hear things if they're going wrong (little noises often equal major repairs if you don't catch them quick), and being outside. Sure, there's some days when it's 90 degrees and blazing sun when AC would be nice, but as long as I've got a canopy, and all but one of our open tractors do, I'm happy. The only times I like cabs are...hmmm. Actually I can't think of any. If we did tillage work, I guess I'd like a cab for that, but we don't grow corn, so that's not an issue. I suppose I prefer cab tractors for packing silage, but that's just because our cab tractors are the only ones with powershifts.

I was at the East Dixfield, ME Kubota dealer yesterday. They had about eight open and five cabbed new tractors on the lot. So, I sat in a cabbed L3040 for a while which seemed pretty nice. I bought 10 gal. of hydraulic fluid and got the heck out of there.

I can the see the point several have mentioned about getting on and off the tractor is not as handy with a cab. It's not unusual for me to use the throttle, pto clutch or 3pt lift lever while standing on the ground next to my NH. A cab would make that hard to do.

The doors actually open from the outside, so you can still stand next to one and use those levers :D

This will be the first winter with a cab tractor and I know already it will be greatly appreciated. This is going to be a very cold and snowy winter they are saying and this body is getting too old to be out in the cold. Have already used the heater a couple times and it warms up real fast!

I see it more of they are being built in much smaller sizes and for a lot cheaper than they use to be.

And on others, opening the rear "hatch" window gives access to 3-point and rear hydraulics (top and tilt). Still, access is somewhat limited compared to open station . . . that's a minor convenience I'm willing to give up for the major environmental improvements re. heat/cold/dust/and insects. Oh, and having a stereo radio for country radio or conservative talk shows ain't bad either.
