Are there enough used CUTs out there?

As a hobby (obsession), I frequently peruse the used CUT market. The numbers seem scant to me, and they seem to hold their value well. My hypothesis is:

People hang on to their CUTs for a long time
0% financing drives people to new CUTs
Used demand exceeds supply

What are you seeing in your locale?

Few good ones to be found and when you do find one, it's priced as if they only used it to move piles of feathers at the pillow factory.

Same around here, if it’s under 10 years old your better off buying new with a warranty for the most part and whatever buying incentives they are offering.
Why buy a 6 year old scut for 12k when a new one is 15k(just a example).

Used tractors Under ten or twenty years old in good shape are scarce here unless you shop grey market. Generally if the tractor is good people don't sell or trade it. If you happen to find a really nice used one it will be 85-90 percent the cost of a new one. At that point used makes no sense to me - and we haven't even discussed running around looking at tractors when they are advertised. Better prices may be had buying a grey market tractor but searching for parts can be difficult and time consuming. I've got a fifty year old grey market tractor. I bought a new Kubota.

They are akin to hens teeth. Dealers want top dollar for junk. You could save your self a few thousand if you drive a few hours into PA towards ohio. Same goes for trailers trucks any equipment.:drink:

Seems like a double edged sword. If we decide to sell, we'd hope to get a higher price. People often tout resale value on the buying/selling choice threads when pointing potential buyers to 'name' brands.

But then we see these threads complaining about the high price of used machines when looking to buy.

I know I looked at the used market back in May before I purchased my tractor. Any tractor that came close to the features I wanted was to close to a new tractor to justify the savings. The cheap used tractors didn't have the features I wanted and looked really rough.

I agree, there aren't a lot in my area if you are looking for lower hours, say under 500 hours. There are lots of them that have higher hours and a little rougher looking. I priced a low hour used tractor before I bought my new JD2025R and it just wasn't worth it to go used.

It took many months of looking to find a nice Pre-Tier IV tractor. The only additional requirements were a factory cab, around 40 or so horses and a loader. In December we did find the L4240HST. It is in very good condition and had 977 hours on the clock when we got it in December. I think it's around 1,065 hours right now. The two main reasons for buying this tractor were to get factory air and more horses for a bigger RFM.

It was bought as a replacement for the L3200 we bought new in 2012 and now has less than 600 hours. When I get some time I'll put the L3200 up for sale. I didn't want to part with the tractor or any of the attachments till the L4240 was put through its paces to make sure everything worked as intended. The L3200 has a very nice (safety glass and steel) homemade cab, heat, lift-off doors, great lighting, loader, Pronovost rear blower, 6' LandPride RFM, brush forks, etc. It has been well maintained and kept inside. I won't be bashful about asking for top dollar.
