Tractor
kubota B26 TLB,former B7610 owner
I hope somebody can answer this...........I have not been paying real close attention to whats new in the " tractor world" since I bought my 07 Kubota B26. Now i'm thinking about buying a
new BX1870-1 OR A BX2370-1. I want this machine for mowing grass only and nothing else, just to mow grass. Now my neighbor, who bought a bigger Kubota awhile back, tells my of this "tier"
pollution stuff that's going on with the new tractors.OK,so It doesn't surprise me that the big machines are being affected,it was just a matter of time.But.....something that is going to be used as a LAWNMOWER ??? I cant believe it. The BX1870 has 18 hp,the BX2370 has 23 hp I believe. Does this "tier" pollution control apply to them too? Or is there some sort of exemption for the smaller diesels. I tried searching for this but had no luck. So can somebody give me an honest answer. THANKS.

They are "Tier compliant" but due to the low HP they do not need DEF, etc....
Basically the complied by making small internal changes that allow them to be a bit cleaner thus complying. The larger engines are a bit more challenging and require a lot more to meet the regs.

The tier emissions requiring the DPF and exhaust fluid start after 26hp on the series you are looking at. The 1870 and 2350 are compliant without.

Tier compliance? Tier compliance? Us BX owners don't need no stinkin' tier compliance.

The key is under thirty horsepower!!!

The key is under thirty horsepower!!!

Not true, there is a specific limit to emissions for all engines depending on horsepower. There are limits to technology that require different methods of emissions reduction at different horsepower levels. As far as I have seen 27-28 HP is the ceiling of being able to meet the standards listed with simple methods of direct injection /timed injection.

OK,great.Maybe I'll be getting one after all. But can someone explain to me....what is DEF. And what the Sam Hill is this "EXHAUST FLUID" thing. You'll have to excuse me for my ignorance on this. I don't keep up on it. The only diesel I ever tore apart was my daughters 84 VW Rabbit diesel, and that was back in the good old days when diesels were "exempt".

From the web:
Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) is an emissions control liquid required by modern diesel engines. It is injected into the exhaust stream. DEF is never added to diesel fuel. It is a non-hazardous solution of 32.5% urea in 67.5% de-ionized water.

You can find it at truck stops to Wal Mart. Sort of newer but has been around for a few years. I know my 2012 does not use it but believe the 2013 started to require it.

OK,so its like the stuff they use on the newer diesel trucks. I guess it doesn't matter in my case because apparently, the BX's weren't affected too much....Good. thanks for the info.
