Are ford 3000 clutch assemblies interchangable?

I've changed a few 3000 clutches and they're often different.
The one I need to change now is about $450. I can get one for half the price that looks to me like it should work. Both have the same disc size and the spline count is the same 10 and 29. I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Are the clutches very specific or would they likely interchange?
The new one in the pic is for a 3000 and seems the same, but looks nothing like the one that's in it.

I've interchanged different styles if clutches before. It was on a Fiat tractor and I had to get a machine shop to drill different mounting holes in the flywheel for me. As long as everything is the same you shouldn't have a issue. If it's listed for your tractor you should be good.

The bolt circle where the flywheel bolts to the pressure plate should be the same. As mentioned the spline diameter and count should be the same. With the clutch installed the clutch fingers with the throw out bearing pressed against them should come to the same distance from the flywheel. And lastly the whole assembly should fit into the bell housing without rubbing anywhere.

John, I think what was in there was the clutch used in the industrial versions, 3400, 3500 with a little more aggressive pressure plate. The one you're looking to buy was used in the ag versions and either will work.
