Are All JD 6x4 Gator Chassis The Same?

I am looking to buy a 6x4 Gator, and currently have a choice between two models, one gas, one diesel. Both have high hours.

I'm comfortable with gas engines, been working on them for @ 15 years. Diesel I understand, but I know the parts are much more expensive. I know where I can get a repower kit for the gas Gator for @ 1700 if the worst case scenario happens.

The gas Gator starts, the diesel Gator does not.

What I'm wondering is, if I get the diesel one, and the engine is kaput, can I put a gas engine in it? Are the chassis basically the same for a 6x4 except for the choice of engine?

Likely you can look up part numbers in jdparts.com to see if there are any chassis (frame) differences. Is what I'd recommend.

Any thoughts on diesel vs. gas with all factors being similar? Wondering which one to pick.

One of your bigger differences will be that all diesels are liquid cooled machines. Not all gas machines are liquid cooled, only the earlier models.

I have seen online where a guy changed a liquid-cooled gas engine out for the Briggs Vanguard in a "high hours, worn out" scenario. I believe both of these units are newer so the gas motor should be an air-cooled.

I have @ 5 acres, very hilly. I plan to use this to remove a lot of junk tires and scrap metal from the back part of the property, as well as haul wood from there to the front where I can split and burn it. Most of the work will be going uphill, as the house is at the high point of the property.
