After reading the last AR15 thread I started thinking again about picking up an AR. I am thinking I want to build one - more for the fun of building it along with of making it exactly how I want it.
I have shot them and trained with them plenty but never built one. Is there anything special I should do or not do, get or not get?
What are some lowers you recommend, any to avoid (I am looking for a nice machined lower - something that will provide top level accuracy once completed)
What are some good places to order parts from, any to avoid?
Thanks!

Check out HM Defense, they make a great milled lowers and uppers.

Back in 1999 I built one out of a kit using a DPMS lower. In that era, there was quite a bit less to choose from so a modern build can get pretty tricked out if you want to. I found it to be a good experience and took some pride it putting it together myself. I'm a fan of Rock River products and they sell their uppers and lowers separately. You can order direct and their prices are reasonable for a quality manufacturer.

Good luck on your build and post some pics when you get started.

I bought a complete AR from here.. They have all type kits for sale.. I have had no problems with mine even with rapid firing with bump fire stock

I have several. Cast lower is fine. My first build was a "Frankengun" with a dp
ms lower and rock river upper. It currently sports an EOTECH optic and magpul hardware. Its always functioned flawlessly with the exception some 15 year old wolf ammo I bought 15 years ago. That stuff is underpowered and doesn't function well with any weapon.
