Get out.. You will never look back.. Sign on with a welding supply vendor, Go on your own as a manufactures rep. Or sign on with a rep agency.. You will never look back. I had all the same issues you have stated when I was at a distributor ( 14 yrs ).. Moved on to a couple different Rep jobs, gained the last bit of knowledge I needed and went up, up and up from there. Now, Maybe.. Maybe I would go back to distribution for a couple years before retirement and that's it. Doubt it though.

You know what peeves me more than anything? It is the sales guy stopping in the middle of my transaction to answer a phone and spend 5 minutes talking to a potential customer while ignoring one standing right in front of him. Stores should have phones answered by someone doing only that and put the phone customer on hold rather than the in store customer, but sadly, most of them are like teenagers with a text message. They cant wait to pick up the phone.

The only thing worse is the clerk or salesperson on a personal call and ignoring you standing at the register and just keeps on talking and talking. I have many times just thrown my purchases on the counter and walked out all the time telling the person how inept they are and should be fired.
Funny. When I was a counter guy at a distributor, We were constantly bitched at for waiting on customers that were already there when potential customers were on the phone. We were told that a walk in was already there to buy.. A call in was a potential sale so answer the phone and put the buyer off until you were done. I never agreed with that philosophy but had to do it due to prick boss always watching.

It's so frustrating when you have so many obstacles preventing you from doing your job the way it should be done. I certainly don't know everything about welding but I know more than most of the people there. I always want to learn more but I want to sell welding supplies, not spend all my time figuring out a new computer system in between putting out fires. They change their mind all the time how they want things done. Then they run into another problem and you get 3 different ideas on how to fix it.

These complaints are common throughout most industries and employers.
Hated it when my bosses tried to interfere with what I was doing. I recall one time when my boss threatened me for disciplining someone for incompetence and dishonesty. It turns out the guilty culprit was related to my boss somehow - WTF.
End result is that I quit and told them to keep their job giving them one days notice to find someone else. Walked out the door and got another job within a few days.
It felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted off my shoulders (very long and complicated full story) and I have not regretted it.
My only regret is that I wished I had done it much sooner.
Do what you think you need to do but be brutally honest with yourself.
Good luck with the job hunting.

and none of them will work ( or will cause even more problems )

round and round you go ... where it stops no one knows ....

things are totally out of your hands at this point and you have no control over your life ...

sit back , take a deep breath , ask yourself if this is the place you want to be in a years time , or two , or three ... can you live with the frustration , incompetence , lack of vision , lack of respect , etc ...

successful companies expand and "grow" with the times ( and whatever changes they have to make ) ... others are stuck with the time clock / iron fist/ my way or the highway attitude ....

management is getting work done through people ... train them , give them the tools to do their job , then let them run with it .....sit back and focus on more important things ( but let them know to tap you for any questions/suggestions they may have ) ... "management by exception" is usually the best form to follow.

I worked one place, not in sales, but with a limited service aspect where are official policy was answer the phone over a in person contact. Even if you answered to get contact info to call back after in person guy left. The reasoning was the guy in person can see you are busy; but the guy on the phone assumes he's being ignored if no one answers.

Haven't heard anything yet. That's what I hate about applying online through a job posting site. There's no way to do a follow up. I've got a few jobs in the past because I did a follow up to show I was interested. One job I got because I went to apply in person. The foreman liked me and didn't want to go through a stack of about 50 applications. Then they bought a brand new Dimension 452 and 60 series wire feeder for me to use.
