yep.. I do SS painting.. much cheaper.

the paint needed for a fender would be a pint.. figure 20 $ for that with a paint match fromthe door code.. etc..

soudnguy

Could be...I tend to use PPG--everything...Gold is cheaper, even for a 2 stage pint with reactive reducers and DT reducers...Not including high-build primer (Love that stuff).

most of the stuff I paint is tractor based.. so I don't get into urethanes. alkyd, acrylic mod, and acrylic / synthetic enamil is where I currently draw the line.. :)

You should give BC/CC a shot some time...It's some nice stuff.

Well, yesterday didn't go well. Dropped the truck off, took the wife to work, came back, fender was off, and the guy said I needed to see the boss. Seems there is a lot more damage to the fender than what "meets the eye". I looked it over, and agreed, yes, considerably more damage. The damage I did was new, the other was previous and kind of patched but not really a great job. Piece of metal glued into the front part holding that together. Boss had already been looking for 1)new fender ($900 at Ford) 2) used fender, none found (I had priced locally at $500 when they have them) 3) used broken or cracked fender that he could repair and still keep me in the original price range.
So far nothing has happened, other than the fender has been removed, so I guess I will wait and see what he comes up with.
I do know that most of the damage was "older" due to the red clay dust on it (From Louisiana), so it isn't like they broke it taking it off. I am not trying to get over on the guy, so as long as he gives it a good shot at finding one, I will probably work with him on the bill. I gave him the Discount Body Parts website, and he pointed out that they were fiberglas fenders as opposed to plastic. He isn't keen on using them, so I figure I will wait and see what he does find.

Sorry you are having issues. This is one of the main reason I buy F350 SRW trucks. I drove a dually GMC back in the late 90's and hated it for many reasons but the number one issue was the fenders.

About 70% of the duallys around here have fender damage.

sounds like someone cracked it before, and did the same type of repair I talked about.. Ie.. use some backing metal and epoxy.

sound sliek the repair 'looked' good enough from the outside that no one knew about it.

ie..a successfull repair.

I think if it were me.. I'd thank the guy fro removing it.. pay him his labor thus far, and drive home with the fender.. get some roof tin and epoxy and fine grain body filler and go home and fix it.

shoot it with SS nason door code paint match.. pint of the stuff is about 20$ at carquest.. 35$ by the time you buy a quart of medium reducer and a can of quik cure hardener :)

shoot it.. and a half hour later hang it..

now that the fender is already off.. probably a single afternoon of work...

if any big missing pieces, vs jsut a crack, then a small fiberglass sheet and resin kit ( 10$ ) can be had.. us e the same metal and epoxy form.

more sanding is all... otherwise same work.

body work is WAYYYYY too easy to fret about much...

soundguy

go for it.. :)

I know what you mean, lots of them running around here with broken fenders. Talked to a guy at the fuel island last night and asked him if he knew what his truck fender costs. No idea but I did get him to think about it. His new truck was a week old, with those one piece fenders/bedside.
Sure needed my truck today, but it sits all by itself and lonely in the body shop impound lot. Thought about driving the chevy, but decided not to go anywhere, lol.

I see a damaged fender every so often...Most all the rest I see are fully intact and not damaged.

So does that mean drivers in Pa are better than the drivers in Fl or In? Or maybe they just have more money to fix the broken fenders, or you aren't paying close enough attention, need glasses, or something? Realistically, about one in every five has some sort of damage to one fender or the other around here, but I am in a "redneck" side of town where half of them take their p/u's mudding on Friday nights, and the other half are pulling loads to the scrapyard with stuff hanging over the fenders all the time:laughing:
