Hi everybody, I have a question that is tormenting me. I have a Kubota L3830 tractor and a KX71-3 excavator. Kubota says not to use a CJ4 rated oil and I would like to use a CF oil as I believe is recommended by Kubota for both my engines. My question is: can I consider (use) as CF rated an oil (DELO 400 LE for example ) on which container is written that the oil meets API service categories CJ4, CI4 PLUS, CI4, CH4, CF, CM, SL? The fact that Kubota says not to use a CJ4 rated oil confuses me. Thanks for your time.

Each new classification is back-rated (it covers whatever rating preceded it), so, theoretically, a CJ4 should cover every prior "C" category. Problem is, a lot of guys are concerned that the new CJ4 does not have enough anti-wear ingredients (the zinc/phosphorous numbers have been lowered pretty significantly from what earlier versions carried, to satisfy emissions requirements), and the mfrs are concerned about premature valvetrain wear.

There are a lot of discussions at various forums about whether or not that's actually true, but, if Kubota says not to use CJ-4, like Doc says, your Kubota dealer should be able to provide what you need. It'll probably be higher priced than Delo, Delvac, Rotella, etc..., I guess (never bought any Kubota oil), but the J-D stuff I use isn't cheap. :( Then again, neither is the engine it's protecting. ;)

Hi everybody, I'm late but have been out of the computer. I read the thread that Diesel recommended. Part of the confusion I had is that few months ago I wrote to kubota and got the attachment as an answer ( I hope it can be opened). As you can see, in the first page referring to CH4 and CJ4 oils, they use the word "only" which I interpreted as oil not backward compatible. In the support section of their site, as noted, they eliminated the word "only" creating to me the confusion.
I now used the kubota oil 15w40 which by the way is rated CI4 and backward compatible to CF. Tractor supply sells Mystic heavy duty oil with the same rating and also Amalie HLO 15W40 has the same Api rating.
The kubota dealer have told me to use "only" SAE 30 oil....

If you go to someplace and look at any of the Mobil 1 oils bottles on the shelf they have a SM/CF on the star (or on the back)... The bottle doesnt mention use in a diesel any place (this is NOT the HD Diesel oil bottles) though..

Since CF is an older rating - Could these bottles that are now being primarily sold for gasonline vehicle use meet that CF spec??
