Im looking to step up to the woods PRD8400 finish mower. It says the rating of the tractor needs to be 25-40HP. With the
B2920 rated at 29HP do you think it could handle it mowing 5 flat acres of your average type grass or would it constantly be overworking? Curious if anyone is using a mower that big on the
B2920. Thanks.
Looks like no one has an actual experience answer for you which can possibly be an answer itself or taken as a "No, no one has done it" answer.
I can give a close actual experience answer and then you can go from there. I owned a
B7800 which is the next step up in HP and I think maybe a bit more in size so you do the difference factoring.
I had a 6' RFM red French brand lightweight mower on my
B7800 and on my field converted to yard by just mowing the red rfm kept breaking. I also have some fairly steep hillside with some flat front yared with gullies and rocks. Never had any power or lack of power issues. Traded the lightweight 6' tearing up mower to a Landpride 6' RFM (tank in weight and thickness of metal) probably equal to a Woods in weight. With the Landpride on the back of the
B7800 I never had any power issues with mowing or climbing the steep hill side but at the bottom of the hill when I made my turn the mower would swing the
B7800 (with FEL always on) around which surprised me the first and maybe second time but it just became the way I made my turns at the bottom of the hill from then on with no problem or concerns. I also was never the full throttle and still mostly am not now kind of person. Meaning I never used full throttle on the
B7800 pulling the 6' Landpride mower
I traded the
B7800 to a
L3240 (twice the tractor weight but same HP as the
B7800) and the mower had no impact on turning the tractor but the tractor would really slow down as I was nearing the crest of the hill which shows how much impact tractor weight has on the HP usage.
I know I didn't answer you direct question as no one else did but I give you some actual experience with near to your situation and you draw your own conclusions.
I personally believe your tractor may turn the blades and pull the weight under flat and ideal grass levels on the bigger deck but I believe you will be stretching the tractor to or beyond it's maximum capacity and if you incur some gullies or hills I believe you'll know if you have exceeded its capacities.
Good luck and if you go for it you can be the guy that steps forward and tells others of your experience and how well or how not quite so well it worked out for you.
