So my hip have been bothering me for a little bit. I was told taking collagen would help with joint discomfort. I bought the Equate brand, they have a suggested serving size of 20 grams or 4 TBSP. That seems like a lot! I have read that 10 grams is sufficient. Took my first dose today, put 2 TBSP in my yeti cup of green tea this morning, not very good.

Who is taking it, why? Do you notice a difference? Dosage? How do you consume it? Tips and advice are welcome.

I tried it a few years ago thinking it might help my knees. Didn't notice any difference. Probably a couple tbsp/day, usually mixed with food and/or tea.

Some folks get relief from glucosamine and/or chondritin sulfate, but if I recall correctly the source for the latter makes a difference, at least for some people. Both are commonly, and successfully used for dogs and horses, with good data, in my opinion. The human data was less clear cut last time I looked, possibly due to the diversity of problems in human joints. So my $0.02 is whatever works for you and your joints.

Collagen gets digested to get into your body, so any route does the same thing. Add it to soups, gravies, whatever works for you. Straight up, by itself in water, it is not a flavor that appeals to me. In tea sounds just loathsome. I like the Great Lakes brand myself, but I don't take it for my joints.

All the best, Peter

This is not medical advise:

One might investigate using comfrey and caster oil salve applied externally.

I know several who use it to alleviate joint pain, after having been in long-term discomfort.

Collagen Peptides for heart health and dry skin. Cardiologist said they reduce LDL cholesterol, and helped prevent and treat atherosclerosis.

I take a scoop of collagen every day in a protein shake along with creatine, cardomom, HMB, L Tyrosine, MCT oil, organic cinnamon, organic cocoa, Nutrim, and a few other things I cannot remember. I also take a handful of supplements in pill form like Saw Palmetto, zinc, krill oil, Ashwaganda, boron, magnesium, Vitamin D3 & K and a few more
I feel great and take no prescription meds. My knees are pretty much junk though.
Too much wear from my sports days.

Quite the cocktail!! That has to be pricey for all of that supplementation. But if you subscribe to all that stuff working why not? The way I looks at it most of it has SOME positive effect I'm sure some more than others. I know creatine works as I have been on and off it many times in my life and it always gives results.

First, I would avoid green teas. (y)

The green tea fad has been over with for over a decade. Look for a good herbal tea instead.

Green teas can be made from anything basically of a green leaf. And the teas are over loaded with fluorides and aluminum way higher than the allowed drinking water limits.

Too much of the green tea will harm the thyroid.
See the attached.

D3+K2. K is known as K1 and will no help with absorption of D3. It has to be K2. :giggle:
