Anyone replaced cam gear on 4110?

I broke the cam gear in my 2004 4110. Debating on replacing the other gears as precaution. Oh and by the way if you ever need to take your water pump apart. It presses apart, not screws apart. Doesn't say anything about that in the manual and I'm a motorcycle mechanic, that means that they are all threaded, some left hand threads, some right hand threads, but all threaded! And the bearings are part of the water pump shaft! How weird is this thing! Anyway has anyone else had problems with the timing gears breaking? Don't really want to do this over, so was thinking about replacing all the gears no matter what they look like!

Found the reason for failure! The cam shaft end play is too much. Limit is .012 and it has about .028. That explains the wear pattern on the cam gear. It was moving in and out so much the idler gear was chewing it up and finally broke it. And they don't offer thrust washers for this? The manuel said that if the end play was too much to replace the cam stoper plate, but it has no wear!!! This is not going to solve the end play problem. I will have to shim it up with thrust washer. Does anyone know if this has been a recall problem?

Is there anything else driven from the cam gear? Cams arent that hard to turn.

This is what I know and the reason for concern! The reason the cam gear broke is because the end play on the cam is too much and it beats the gear until it breaks. The end play wasn't set up right from the factory. This engine has never been apart, paint hadn't been broken.

Oh and No the cam gear doesn't run anything. You have the crank gear that runs the oil pump and the idler gear and that runs the cam gear and fuel injector gear.

Interesting. A few months back I posted the below thread. Sounds like I may have the same problem in the future, but for now my tractor continues to operates normal.

Any Dealers see problems with the Cam Gears on 4110?

4110 Engine Gear Tooth

While changing the engine oil at its scheduled interval, while first draining I heard something hit the bottom of the oil bucket, which I thought it was the drain plug washer and immediately fetched out and discovered it was a gear tooth. A small beveled gear tooth.

What would cause an engine internal gear tooth to break and how concerned should I be. If it is metal fatigue, what would cause fatigue to an engine that operates less the 2500 RPMs. What would cause gears to miss mesh?

I do not know how long the gear tooth has been sitting on the bottom of the oil pan, but it is less than 100 hours since last oil change. The tractor continues to run fine. Any thoughts?
