I was looking at a PeCo lawn vac with aluminum impeller and
housing and was wondering how well it would work and hold up
to use. I'd hate to see the price to replace it should a rock or
something explode it. There is very little I could find on the web
about them. Anyone have any experience they'd like to share?

Thanks,
Michael

PS. what size for a 60" deck - waiting for info from PeCo.

I have never seen the PeCo unit, but I would be leary of the alloy impeller, and housing. I have an Ingersoll HydroVac for my tractor. It is a steel housing, with a steel impeller, driven by a hydro motor. This thing has some dents in it. Eaven if the yard is clear, you will always find a acorn, stick, or rock, that will be picked up. Better safe then sorry.

No experience with Peco, but I had a billygoat with an aluminum cast alloy. Something hard, acorn or stone, went through and cracked/warped a blade. We couldn't twist it back into shape. With some heat and pressure it just broke off! Welded up a new steel one with some scrounged blower motor parts. Checked price on a new one ~ $175.00, ouch.

Safety note. I only found my cracked blade by chance. Something I had not checked on a regular basis, I do every time before and after now. Can only imagine what could have happened if that blade came the rest of the way off at full throttle.

That is a good point you mention. I could see where the
blade could self destruct. The housing/blowers made of
steel would more likely dent up. I see a lot of models that
are touting thermoplastic housing and impellers. They are
supposed to flex rather than bend or break but I wonder if
they'll wear down from repeated leaf sucking.

Thanks,
Michael
