Box Scraper Anyone recognize this blade?

Does anyone recognize the brand or what duty the box blade at the link below is? I don't see any markings on it, and it's almost a 3 hour drive down there to look at it. Ad poster has posted it and a red one just like it several days in a row. All I get from them is it's a 6ft box blade, cat 1.

Looks pretty light duty to me. I wouldn’t drive that far for a box blade like that, at that cost.

I have one that looks similar to that. Mine is 5' and I pull it with a 23 hp tractor. I'd rate mine as a light duty implement, it's not heavy enough to do much more than spread sand or topsoil.

Ask the seller how much it weighs. That will tell you a lot, I suspect it's around 200# which isn't much.

THAT is almost CERTAINLY NOT a satisfactory (too light!) blade for your 38 HP tractor.

It's a repainted TSC box scraper.

Light box blades are a dime a dozen. Keep looking for something close & cheap.

Weight is a direct proxy for strength in most impliments, blades of any sort especially. Light ones also dont weigh enough to cut hard material well. I upgraded from a 72" King Kutter (generic farm store type) to a really old Gannon. The KK wasnt bad, but it didnt cut hardback even with a pole of heavy scrap piled on for more weight.

The Gannon is probably 20 years old & ugly as **** but will dig circles around the light one. Cutting edges wear out, but that's about it. They are designed to be replaceable. Who cares about paint & rust. You are going to bounce it over gravel & do worse than sandblast it every time you use it. Paint will be gone soon enough & the inevitable rush polishes off when you use it.

My only issue with a cheap box scraper (besides the weight) is the cheap hot rolled plate used to fab the side plates. Don't take long in the dirt and gravel to wear off the bottom leading edge of the side plates. You can hard rod them but high carbon plate is a better alternative. You always get what you pay for in life.

cute BB for a garden spreading mulch etc.
Otherwise what everyone else has said. My Armstrong Ag is about 100 lbs per foot comes in about 610# or so. And at time it struggles if the black clay has had a dry summer for a few months, but gets the work done.

You'll be glad you passed and will eventually find a nice old ugly one that'll be a treasure....:thumbsup:
