Here's an odd question for you all....

Has anyone ever put the liquid cooled engine from an x540 into an x534??

I did a quick internet search and the x534 engine (FS730V) sells new for about 1500-1700$.

The x540 liquid cooled engine (FD731V) Sells for about the same price.

What would it take to do the swap?

How much do you think you could sell a used x534 motor with 250 hrs for?

How much could you sell a "new" x534 motor for?

I'm interested in this for two reasons
1.) Liquid cooling + cab + heater + remote start = toasty snowblowing!!
2.) Quieter operation? (how much quieter is the x540 vs x534?)

Thanks!

It would probably be cheaper to sell your tractor and buy the one you want. There is a new X540 motor on ebay item 290577205751. Will the radiator mount in your tractor? How much is the radiator and the fan? Is the fan electric or belt drive? There is a lot to consider. good luck.

Engine and radiator should just drop in. The x534 and x540 have the same frame.

Does anyone know if Deere customizes these engines at all when they buy them from Kawasaki?

I think his x534 is AWS, (all wheel steer) and the x540 is not and he wants to keep AWS. So a simple buying of an x540 would not be what he wants to acomplish. He would have to buy an x724. Would be nice if JD made an AWS liquid cooled in the x5xx series.

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

I could get the AWS and liquid cooling in an older x485, but that's the same size as today's x700 series and I really don't need something that big. The snowblower for the bigger machines cost more too.

Garage space is at a premium so the smaller x500 series really fits the bill nicely.

If I could swap out the motors for net $500 (after selling the air cooled engine) I might give this some serious thought.

I assume JD specs the engines from Kawasaki so they can just install at the factory.

I like your idea of the swap. Keep us updated with your progress.

princess auto has (had?) x540 kawi motors for about $700 on clearance. They were used but appeared hardly worn other than some bent fins on the rad from handling.

at that price you a swap would be reasonable

No link sorry. Its surplus so stock is limited and may not be posted online.

Best to go to the site and http://www.princessauto.com/view-all-products-in-shop/Page-2-30?keyword1=engine&orderby=product_name&search_category=&search_limiter= go to the store search and call a local branch. Ask if there are any of the kawisaki liquid cooled engines left.

Dartmouth branch had one. Sitting on a pallet forever. I almost bought it just to have it.. at that price. IIRC it was like 1400 regular price.. They dropped the price to try and move them out

FYI the dartmouth princess auto still has it was in today. $750. 26hp LC Kawasaki

Maybe call the store and you can get a SKU, then check a closer branch and verify the specs on the motor.

Good luck. its pretty cheap for that motor. Im surprised it hasnt sold for someone to do the very upgrade your planning.
