This would be pretty useful for me, but I'm worried the mower body might buckle. It's an older Caroni 1600. The trailer is not large. Let's say under a ton laden. I could use a tube across the back for reinforcement but then the forces would just transfer through the end plates to the front of the body at the hitch points, right?
No I don't intend to be mowing with the trailer attached :)

I’d think you’d be fine. I assume you’re talking about short tow distances? Probably wouldn’t do it down a highway at 70 mph

Implements are, for the most part, built relatively solid

I modified my bush hog by adding a 2 inch receiver hitch for moving empty trailers around. Its easier than taking off the implement each time. Keep in mind your 3PH loses capacity the further away the hitch is from your tractor. I have no problems moving empty trailers or heavy trailers on level ground.

This is just me. I'd never put a hitch on the back of any kind of mower/brush cutter. I can hear the Engineers screaming in the background. :)

I have a rear hitch on my box blade and flail mower.
As a previous poster said, it’s nice to move a trailer around with on the place without dropping the implement.

I guess moving empty trailers around the yard is prolly ok. But my needs involve rough ground and loads of firewood. So I'm going with caution on this. Not worth busting stuff. Thanks for the replies.

We have a Seppi brush flail mower and installed hooks for skidding chains on the back. I welded on a pad to spread the load out, it was an oval about 10" long, then welded the hook in the middle of that. I think the housing is the metric equivalent of 3/16 steel. It is a little heavier unit since it is rated to 4" hardwood mulching.

Yeah the Seppis look nice. Coupla notches heavier than a Caroni.

They sure would scream if they say me with the guard off pulling a piece of heavy nylon material catching the clippings thrown back. Cleans the yard up like nothing you ever saw. Shoot me my yard my tractor nobody else around.

I am the same way. I bought an $18,000 log trailer and the first thing I did was modify it. Blew the warrantee right out the window, but what do I care, I bought it to do work, not whine to the manufacturer that got a ding on it. I routinely send the engineers pictures of my modifications how versatile their orginal machine can be.
