Gonna go look and maybe buy one tomorrow it is 3 years old $400.00. Is this a good tiller new they are $600.00 plus or minus . What are your opinions?

My friend bought a new one, then had it run away on him and crash into a tree. He hasn't been overly satisfied with it.
Look on YouTube. They seem prone to runways that the older Horse models don't. After careful research I bought an ancient Horse (1982), downloaded the 180 page manual, and had good luck with it in the garden. I would buy an older model, Tecumseh engine and all. Paid $500 for it, though. Owners of the old Horse models seem to swear by them.

I don't know a whole lot about the different models but I know from talking to a dealer that the Troybuilt horse with the 8 hp Kohler engine was the best tiller Troybuilt made. We have have had that model for years and beat it like crazy with tilling our large garden which took running it all day, every day. We bought it used and I just replaced the fluids last week and the oil (a year old at least) was darker than new oil but still looked good. The gearbox may be the same on all models but on the gears you can still see the machining on the teeth. The dealer said the weak spot is the tiller part where the axle gets bent and leaks oil. Ours leaks oil but is not bent (from what I can see just looking at it) so I'm gonna see if I can get a new seal.
Best tiller I know of other than BCS,Grillo and Goldoni.

got one now- it works in previously tilled soil. the tines are peice of junk- they break off easy it it hits a rock.

Had one and sold it.. It was a runner!! In any type of new soil, grass or 1st tilling in spring it would jump up and take off. The only way you could prevent that is to SLOWLY lower the depth gauge after about 3 passes-- on notch at a time and this took awhile to get soil tilled. Once it was powered then it worked fine. I even bought weights that mounted on frame with little luck. The last thing I tired before I sold it was a chain and 2x6 off the back of it to stand on kinda like a dog sled.:confused2: It worked but just to much trouble.

I bought one spring of 2008. Ran it till it ran out a tank of gas. Let it set while I did some raking, filled it back up, and could not get it to start. Checked all I knew to check, spent about 2 hours trying to start it. Took it back to Lowes. They replaced it. Ran this one a couple of hours, and noticed it was leaking oil. Took it back and got my money back. Went to Tractor Supply and bought the Cub Cadet RT65. Have been very happy with it. It is 3 times the tiller the bronco was.

I had a Bronco model for 10 years, (Bought in 1990 I think it was) then, I gave it to my brother. I was at his house yesterday swapping flatbed trailers and they had just finished tilling a garden for my cousin with it
I did have to buy a new motor at about year 9, but I used that thing ALLOT. We also replaced the belts a couple of times over the years.
On hard or new ground I found, as mentioned before, that a few shallow shallow passes is the way to go.

I had one it had a 6hp ohv Kohler engine on it man that thing started nice first pull after sitting all winter very impressive!
It seemed cheaply built MTD builds them these days so take that with salt...also the tires were too small it had to be coaxed along I didn't care for that.
I sold the bronco because my garden went from 10x10 to 75x100 and tilling with it was ridiculous hard work so I bought a 6' 3pt tiller for my tractor.
I do also have a 2 year old Craftsman 900 with the fake black Honda engine that has both reverse and forward gears for the tines and I like it way better than the TB and it starts on the first pull in spring also and every time afterward also. my 2c

On the 6' tiller, boy you got that right, saves allot of walking. I love mine, but I would still like the little one to get between the rows when the crops get up a little, that beats a hoe. I wouldn't trade for my big tiller.
